We had the good fortune of connecting with Janet Heredia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janet, how does your business help the community?
As a local herbalist with a small apothecary in Miramar, Florida, I started my business out of a deep concern for the rising costs of both prescription and over-the-counter medications. These costs often place a heavy burden on individuals and families, and many pharmaceutical options come with a range of side effects and the risk of addiction. I believe in returning to the old-fashioned ways of caring for ourselves, methods that our ancestors relied on long before the invention of modern drugs. Herbs offer a multitude of benefits, not only for physical health but also for spiritual well-being. Through my apothecary, I help my community with natural, safe, and effective alternatives that don’t put a strain on your finances and that support a holistic approach to health, helping people to reconnect with nature and become empowered by being able to heal themselves which is how we as humans were designed.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Venus and Phoenix Apothecary is a place for herbal remedies, Botanical skin products, Infused herbal oils and Esoteric tools to help you in your health and spiritual practice. We are currently operating through our online portal and my workshop is open by appointment only. Getting to where i am today was not easy. I had to earn the trust of my customers. this is not like selling regular items. I am selling a product that people need to consume and trust that the product wont cause harm so the process has been long but so worth it. I’ve been able to help many people find comfort and relief and talking to people about their progress makes me so happy. it’s not about growing into a huge business or gaining followers. for me its about one person feeling better. that is a lesson i learned.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in South Florida of course you’d take a stroll down the sandy beaches of Hollywood beach! but I would also take my friend out for lunch and shopping in the Wynwood area, where you can find lots of street art by local artists, museums, small shops and unique restaurants. A great fun activity to do is Cruisin’ Tikis Fort Lauderdale. Where you hop on a floating Tiki bar and enjoy cocktails while exploring Fort Lauderdale’s beautiful waterways.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a heartfelt shout-out to Ethan and Myriam Williams from Discount Health Foods. They showed me the importance of being confident in my knowledge and gave me the incredible opportunity to work under them in their 40+ year-old apothecary. Their guidance, especially Ethan’s pop quizzes that tested my knowledge, helped me overcome imposter syndrome and taught me how to genuinely connect with people and recommend products with confidence. I also owe so much to my husband, Chris, for his unwavering support. He’s been my rock, helping me find the time to pour into this business, even when my absence caused some inconveniences along the way. Without all of them, I wouldn’t be where I am today, confidently sharing the healing power of herbs with my community.
