We had the good fortune of connecting with Ja’Quandria Corouthers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ja’Quandria, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Sugar Booger has a big impact on many communities and the world. Our motive is to ensure happiness with every baked good that we sell and offer. Sugar Booger thrives to make each individual feel good about themselves on their special day or event. From Birthday Parties, weddings, private parties and more we want your day to be special. We offer “CAKING With A TWIST” classes to help teach the community the basics of decorating a cake and having some fun at the same time. We love to see others smile and enjoy one another in one setting. Coming together with people all over the world excites us, we’re meeting new people everyday, teaching others and it feels so good. Sugar Booger also gives back to communities on holidays and special occasions. Everything we do is from the heart, we want to see everyone smile and be happy!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At first I was scared to start my own business until I took a leap of faith. I started everything from scratch, with my own money and little knowledge about the industry. I taught myself everything, I watched videos, did research and practiced a lot. I wasted a lot of materials and product lol but it paid off. Sugar Booger is different from others because we do it all, we do a wide variety of things. We bake, cater, teach, and most of all give back. Our customer service is outstanding, after we speak with our customers we feel connected in a way. Building relationships with your customers are important to us. Sugar Booger is unique and we love creating long lasting impressions on our customers.

I also work a 9-5 at a law firm in IT. I saved my own money here and there to get my business going and sometimes I would spend my last to make sure everything is right and how I want it. I sponsored my own business to get it where it’s at now. I am still currently working my 9-5 and baking and I’m trying to get my business all the way off the ground but I appreciate where it’s at now. I’ve learned a lot and overcame a lot while putting my business together as far as pricing, marketing, promoting and teaching myself at the same time. But I’m getting through it day by day. I want the world to know that Sugar Booger is a very adequate company, we love to see others happy and we are here for all of your celebrations and exciting moments.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friends (Nikki-Ann Wint & Camree Perkins) were in town I would take them on a mini vacay in Miami. Even though we’re all from Miami, I would still set up a mini vacay for us. We are all hardworking women with kids (Austin, Braxton and Kobi) and sometimes we just need a break and to relax. I would set up massages, room service and have drinks already prepared at the room. I would hire a private chef for us and we would sit up and talk about life and how we overcame certain obstacles. Sometimes just relaxing with friends are the best feeling ever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I personally want to shoutout my Sugar Booger babies they are biggest supporters, I love them, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without them. I would also like to thank my sister Jeneka Corouthers, my assistant. She helps me with everything without asking, she’s always there when I need her. I would also like to thank my close friends (Destiny Frazier, Nikki-Ann Wint, Camree Perkins) and family (Geneva Smith) for the love and support and mostly their kind words of encouragement. Can’t forget my mom (Runee Corouthers), she lives in my corner. Thank y’all!
