We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaquie Ohh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaquie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I did what we were told was the right way to do things if I wanted to be successful in life: I went to college, got a degree in Economics, and landed a job in real estate finance. As I was making my way through college, I was also a full-time model where I got to work with some amazing brands like Sports Illustrated and Maxim. Since I was a child, I was equally studious as I was creative and my parents encouraged me to thrive in both categories. However, once I got the degree and stable job, I found myself unfulfilled. I had always had a passion for photography, even back in middle school, but didn’t think of it being a possible career. Then, while I was working at a real estate title company, I met someone who owned a creative agency. They knew about my passion for photography and asked if I wanted to come take pictures for them. Without thinking too much about it, I accepted! A few months later, I quit the real estate finance world forever and began working full-time at the creative agency as their creative director & lead photographer. Someone once told me, “Anyone can sit behind a desk and crunch numbers all day, but not everyone has the ability to be creative. It’s unique to everyone, and therefore, you will always be irreplaceable.” I found passion and purpose by pursuing a creative career. It’s not always the “safest” route, but it has been the most rewarding.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I specialize in creating a unique experience for my clients. I offer creative direction services for any production (photoshoot, video shoot, etc) as well as photography and videography. It’s not enough to just have a great business anymore. If you’re not putting out inspiring, visual content… you basically don’t exist. Having been on both sides of the lens, I understand the power of a well-crafted image to communicate a message and evoke emotion. I treat every project like my own muse (hence the name). I work very closely with each of my clients to understand their unique voice and capture it in a way that speaks to their audience. Whether it’s a product, service, or a personal brand, having eye-catching photos are essential to your success, especially in this day and age.
I want people to be inspired by my images, and I believe when you truly understand and care about your client’s business or brand, that feeling comes through naturally. It’s not just about an exchange of services, it’s about creating an experience. And from that, naturally inspired and stunning images will be the result.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is like Vegas by the beach, we say. There’s something for everyone. Whenever my friends come in town, I like to give them a well-rounded experience. First, a dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Komodo. It’s always the place to see and be seen. The Toro Roll and the Truffle Dumplings are a must! Afterwards, go upstairs to the lounge to dance the night away. If we’re feeling extra spicy that night, club E11even is an unforgettable experience. For daytime activities, I like to rent a boat and go island hopping around Biscayne Bay. Or take a bike ride along South Beach where the people-watching is unlike any other. For spa days, I like to visit The Standard. The property is beautiful and the amenities are epic! The spa has steam rooms, saunas, ice rooms, baths, and scrub rooms. You can get lunch by the pool (which plays music underwater) then you can hop between their jacuzzi and cold plunge. The crowd is colorful and a little bit hedonistic… again, great for people watching!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to shoutout the creative agency that gave me the opportunity to develop my skills and support me along the way: Creative Klick.
