We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jasmine, how do you think about risk?
I’ve never been the person to take risks. I always feared taking risks, always wishing I had the courage to do something out of the ordinary, like sky diving for example. I’ve never liked not knowing what the outcome would be and I that is why I feel as if I never lived life fully. I did not begin taking risks until I was a full adult. Come to find out, I am a risk taker. I like the unexpected and the danger and the unknown. I feel as if we all take risks in our daily life, even if it’s routine. I took the risk of starting my own business, in a Pandemic none the less. Boy I was shaking in my boots. I wasn’t sure where to start what to do who to talk to. But, it all worked out. Once I started my business, I received a lot of felicitations from friends, acquaintances, and strangers. I love seeing my business grow and being viewed and appreciated and shared. I want my craft to be viewed worldwide! And to think, none of this would have happened if I never had taken that risk. I now feel comfortable in traveling to destinations by myself !! I can only imagine capturing other destinations beautiful art through my camera lens as I begin my solo journey around the world. Risk taking can be a bit nerve racking, but at least you won’t live in regret wondering what would of happened by not taking risks.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Ever since I was younger I’ve realized I had a creative side to me. I found myself deep into books, I loved creating fiction stories, I loved drawing and painting, music, and I could go on. My dad was the first and only person to gift a camera to me. It was such an amazing gift I received as a child! Even though it was a 35mm disposable film Kodak camera, I loved it and I let my younger creative ideas take me on a voyage while I was in Jamaica. I’m proud that I didn’t begin with any fancy cameras. I begin, and still have a Canon T6. I started with the starter kit lens and worked my way to a Sigma (one of my fav lens right now) and I’ll continue to grow. I’m pretty much self taught. YouTube is my go to, I’ve signed up for classes, webinars, I had free photoshoots to practice and hone my skills. It’s definitely been an adventure. The doubt that constantly flooded my head, I had to get over that and build confidence in myself and my business. I had to keep pushing myself to see a bigger picture of how I’d like my business to be. I’ve learned patience, good things come to those who wait, it not to those who waits too long. I’ve also learned that sleep doesn’t exist when you’re your own boss. It’s all worth it in the long run and I cannot wait to look back on where I started. I want people to know that I am an all inclusive photographer, I will have fun with you, celebrate with you and still get the job done!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d start the trip off with universal studios, it’s no biggie driving to Orlando for a day, book a hotel then drive back the next day. A very fun filled day. Next I would take them to the Superblue museum and grab a bite to eat at Yardhouse in Aventura. We’d take a trip to the keys and swim with dolphins for a day and explore the town. We can then relax at Hollywood beach, play volleyball or racquetball, swim. After that I’d introduce them to Ginger Bay Cafe so they can have a taste of some delicious oxtails and if we’re lucky, there might be a band we can enjoy the remainder of the evening. We cannot forget about Las Olas and their many, many choices of restaurants and boutiques , we cannot forget to visit Club Euro and dance the night away. It wouldn’t be a Florida trip without visiting South Beach 🏝️ and all its amazing festivities, rent a yacht and have a party!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give thee biggest shoutout to my amazing Best Friend Raven Stewart. She’s always there for me believes in me she’s my cheerleader and number one client. The support and love she shows is unmatched by anyone else. Once we’re up, it’s stuck!!!
I have to give a shout-out to my Son Mark and Sister Flora. They are my very helpful assistance whenever I need extra hands! And yes, they’re apart of the business too, just in the background. If it weren’t for them, I’d would have turned down a lot of business.
I have to shout out my photographer family. Dustin sis my guru, Gio is my partna, I dont know her real name but she’s so kind and helpful, her Instagram name is Kimage, she’s amazing. David, my next door neighbor for dropping gems. And I’d like to shout out my clients of course for choosing and trusting me.
