We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My choice to pursue a “creative career”, wasn’t purposely done, however, it’s indeed purposeful. Thinking back, I guess you could say, it pursued me. The gift of artistic expression has been apart of my life since I was kid, in multiple forms. I’ve always enjoyed drawing and painting. I would cut up magazines and make paper dolls. My uncle has always been a huge influence when it comes to tapping into my creativity. He paints, creates music, and does sculptures. When my sister & I would visit with my him, there was always something fun and creative to do. Exploring other avenues of “the arts”, I sung in the choir & danced in middle school. In the realms of beauty, in high-school, I did hair. This was the era of the updos, roller wraps, barrel curls & rod sets, “kitchen stylist”, to say the least. Present day, my love for makeup artistry is my most loved creative outlet. I’m able to create art through the profession of makeup artistry, and it’s beyond fulfilling.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other artists, is my love for makeup artistry and my ability to create moments that make my clients feel even more beautiful & proud of what they see in the mirror. What I’m most proud of in my career, is that I’m a multifaceted artist & I can’t be placed in a box creatively. My initiative to study & implement multiple forms of art & art styles, while making them my own, are heavily seen within the overall aesthetic of JRA. The first page of my website is like entering an art gallery. I strive to create an experience for my clients before they even get in the chair. I am most excited to see the growth of my brand in the future, & to be able to work with clients & alongside other creatives & entrepreneurs whom I admire.

I’ve been apart of the beauty industry for almost 8 years now, and it hasn’t been easy; yet, it has been rewarding. Looking back, there are many things that have been extremely impactful on the development of my career. If I had to point out a few, I’d say, creativity, originality, persistence, and a love for learning. With this, I’ve been able to do some amazing things and truly grow as an artist & entrepreneur. Along the way, I’ve also learned to maintain my faith in God during the lowest & highest of moments, in both my career & personal life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite things to do in Birmingham is to eat. There are a few spots in the city that definitely carry a vibe & good food. Hidden gems like The Tea Shop Bar & Grill & The Lobby have some of the best okra & steaks in the city! For brunch vibes, Urban Parc, Ruby Sunshine, Another Broken Egg, Flying Biscuit Cafe’, Roots & Revelry, just to name a few. Bar & lounge vibes, Mayawell, The Chandelier, Bodega on 5th, Denim on 7th, Cassanova, Emerald Lounge are few dope places. For soul food, definitely Ruth’s Place! We also have A LOT of local food trucks, and if you need any other recommendations, check out or local tour guide LHUT on TikTok.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Aww man, there are soo many people! First, I have to give honor to God. Becoming an entrepreneur was and still is a faith walk. I’m a heavy praying woman with unshakable faith. I stand firm in knowing that I can do ALL things through Christ. Next, I’d like to shout out my family, especially my children, my sister, and parents. They are the ones who sacrifice soo much to make it possible for me to do what I love. They are the core of my being! I wouldn’t be who I am without them. To my closest friends (more like my 2nd family), their prayers, words of encouragement, & continuous support do not go unnoticed. I love & appreciate each of you endlessly. To every client, partner, photographer, model, creative, etc., that has ever booked me, recommended my services, collaborates with me, THANK YOU! Your trust in my gifts have opened doors to unimaginable. To my MAC family, specifically Santana, I admire you so much, and I’m so grateful that God placed you in my life, thank you for betting on me, time & time again! To my In & Out team, my new family, I’m so ready to see what God has in store for us. It’s only up from here!
