We had the good fortune of connecting with Jason Naylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jason, what do you attribute your success to?
Kindness

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a multi-disciplinary artist and my work focuses on the expression and communication of human emotions. Generally it is very message-driven, and I am known for my bright color palette and my positive messages seen in large scale murals. I think what sets me apart is the authenticity in my messaging and my relentless positivity. I am proud of the fact that I promote love and kindness in my work, and everyone always compliments me on being the real deal, being kind, and being what they thought I would be, after seeing my work. I am also commonly distinguished by my use of vibrant color, which I love and am very proud of as well! I think that I am where I am today for many reasons, including hard work and putting in the hours, but I think that kindness has really opened doors for me. I often feel like there are plenty of others out there that could do what I do, but the reason I get hired, or called back is because I treat people with dignity and respect. I strongly believe that true success is the result of nurturing relationships, being a decent human being, a treating people with respect. I have learned a few things along the way especially about managing my business, pricing my art, you know, things like that. But mostly I’ve learned the importance of practicing what I preach and being true to my messaging.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I would want to show off the parts of Brooklyn that I love, so we would walk around the Bushwick area and look at all the street art. We’d stop for shrimp cocktails at Sea Wolf and then dinner at Mission Chinese. I’d take them to Dumbo for the sunset view of the city and eat at Cecconis. I also love the East Village – always good to walk around and see what’s new on the walls and get a slice of pizza. I am not much of a partier so I’d put them to bed early and we’d wake up early and beat the brunch crowd to EGG or one of the good Willliamsburg brunch spots.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father, Preston Naylor. He always believed in me and made me feel like I could do whatever I wanted to do
