We had the good fortune of connecting with Javier Mercado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Javier, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
I have always wanted to find a way to make an impact while earning an income, so I realized the answer was right in my face the whole time, as an EMT with 12 years of ER experience I asked myself what is something that can change someone’s world and others in an instant? Saving a life!. The one thing I noticed about the general population learning CPR is the lack of effectiveness taught. Traditionally, CPR is taught in 4 hours long class and is seen as a chore. Instead of having the opportunity to change someone’s life, that’s where I step in and make things interesting. With my style of teaching and my ability to grab students’ attention and customize what’s being taught, I realized I can make CPR interesting and effective, therefore saving more lives in the process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
With 20 combined years of Emergency Room, EMS, and CPR training, I have more than expert experience under my belt to teach CPR. I feel like what sets me apart from others who do what I do is passion and a love to know. I helped someone learn a skill that can help them save someone’s life. Effective CPR is the name of the game and reading the room of students so that I can customize what I’m teaching so they have a better understanding of what they get to do during CPR. The lessons I’ve learned from doing what I do is realizing that I have been blessed with a gift to make people understand whats going on, growing up as a C student I was never proud of being in the middle but maturing in life has taught me that I know have the skills to communicate with the best of both worlds be it an A student or an F student I see now that I can get my point across to both, therefore leading to a better understanding of what is being taught. It is also what has lead me to become a self published children’s author and I hope the word of my book spreads like wild fire.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being born and raised in Miami you know exactly where to and where not to go in our beautiful Dade-County. Homestead is what made me the man I am today so we will start off there. Get some Robert is here for some shakes and then drive down to Key Largo 25 mins away and go eat at the big chill. To continue our day we can drive up to NorthSpace open park beach (which have the best sand and water in opion) next to south beach. I am really big into karaoking so I a few spot all over Miami Dade that we can hit up any night of the week.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Not to sound all religious lol but I need to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I know it’s a controversial subject in this age, but we should all stand up for what we believe in and love and serve one another. The next person in line is my mother, who loves me without having to think about it. My brother and father who have been fearful of my crazy business endeavors but secretly support me, and to all my bestfriends I consider my brothers and I can’t forget my coworkers who love my ideas and support me.
