We had the good fortune of connecting with Javon Johnson known as mansa musa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Javon, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am from Miami fl (brownsub) but have a Bahamian background. my background and upbringing impacted me in a major way with the Bahamian culture being musical and most of my family were musically inclined singing and instrument wise so I basically grew up around it

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart from other music producers within my 15 years is my musical background and ability to play multiple live instruments such as piano and drums that I have now been doing in live settings and church for the pass 22 years.

I’m most proud about being one that artist consider reaching out to for assistance and being able to render that assistance.

that’s a great question it took many years of what we in the music industry call crafting my sound for example within 5 seconds you know that’s a Mansa Musa beat. It also took a lot of reading books educating myself on the business side of the music industry when I first started out their was no helping guide now you can go on YouTube for everything lol

it was not easy at all it because I was learning as I was going. I had no help financially purchasing equipment which was expensive and once I was able to get equipment piece by piece I had to learn how to format music and make it sound good enough for an artist to believe in my work which took a few years

I overcame the challenges by staying consistent not giving up being determined and telling myself if I get one yes out of 100 no’s that’s a win

Lessons that I’ve learned along the way is keeping god first, believe in yourself, network at all times, and understanding the business side of the music industry because what you don’t know…they capitalize on

I want the world to know if theirs anything you’re passionate about it starts as a thought Then it enters your heart all you have to do is act on it if I did you can to

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
being that we are in Miami I would first take them by a few restaurants that are iconic for our dishes such as Bahamian pot, Sundays, ikrave, chef creole, finger licking, etc and I would definitely introduce them to conch salad lol

hang out wise I would definitely take them to the south beach and Wynn wood area everybody gets excited about that

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would first like to thank god for blessing me the gift of musicianship. I would like to thank my wife Britney Johnson for supporting me through it all. Big shout out to my brothers Larry & Cook who plays major roles mentoring me who also creates great music with me. I want to lastly thank t-ro & Keith Wallace for being two of the first artist to really believe in my craft and giving me a platform
