We had the good fortune of connecting with Jaylyn Maxwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaylyn, what role has risk played in your life or career?
To me, risk taking is a fundamental part of going into business for yourself. Risk is important as it can lead to much success in your business. Of course there are pros and cons of taking risks, however make sure the pros outweigh the cons and that should guide yo in the right direction of life. You never truly know the outcome of a risk, but if you look into it deeply, you may be able to limit the room for failure.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
By day, I am a working professional and student. By night or on the weekends, I am an independent photographer who loves capturing those special moments in one’s life. I love creating memories and making women and men feel empowered through visual arts. The stories that you are told while shooting is truly impeccable. My goal is to make those who I’m photographing feel beautiful and one of a kind. it definitely has not been easy to be in the photography world as it is highly competitive. However, I enjoy the challenges that come along with it. I’ve definitely learned to be open an understanding of different backgrounds and cultures/cultural backgrounds.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place in the city is Perch in Downtown. It consists of anaopen, rooftop bar and the views are incredible! If it were a week long trip, definitely going down to San Diego, CA and escaping the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. Los Angeles can be very busy but San Diego is the perfect little get away from the hustle and bustle. We would definitely go to little Italy and eat some yummy, authentic Italian food. For night life, we’ll go to the Gaslamp District which is filled with bars and different restaurants.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mother and father. They bth have been truly supportive in my endeavors and what I want to do. Without their dedication dn support, I know I wouldn’t be where I am at in life and in this far along in my journey with entrepreneurship.
