We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayma & Kevin Edman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jayma & Kevin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our mission is to leave the planet better than when we arrived. We’ve shopped second hand most of our lives for ourselves, for friends, and for our home. What started as something we enjoyed doing for ourselves turned in to a side project on the weekends. We would visit 2 or 3 spots to source from then grab lunch afterwards, make a day out of it. We also sourced anytime we traveled and during a fall trip to Paris in 2016, we thought: why not turn this into something more. We cultivated a more robust online presence and have sprinkled in pop-up shows over the years. One of the most important aspects of growing the company is striking a strong balance in terms of our skills relative to one another. Kevin handles the operational side of things including customer service, shipping and quality control, while I handle sales, product sourcing, and the creative aspect.

What should our readers know about your business?
We own and operate a vintage shop called Memory Junkie Vintage. What sets us apart is our ability to keep what the customer needs and wants at the forefront of what we do, from product sourcing to customer service. We’re most excited about our next venture, an extension of Memory Junkie with a bit of a re-brand as well. We’re introducing a line of vintage and globally sourced homewares in the next year.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’re currently residing in Austin following stints in Miami and Chicago. We love to show visitors all the hiking trails that Austin has to offer, we would plan a picnic hike with the dogs in tow. While they’re here we make sure to prioritize stopping at the plethora of food trucks and coffee shops. Hit up a reflexology spa for a full body massage, stop by any local music venues or shows, scour a few local thrift shops, and pop into a few cocktail bars (mezcal bar preferred). We also love to cook for, and with visitors. We’ll put a record on, open a nice bottle of wine and get to it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Jayma: “I owe my affinity of vintage goods to my grandmother, KK. The epitome of a southern belle, her home is full of tasteful antiques and decor, all of which have a story. My cousins and I would spend hours playing in her clothes and wearing her jewelry when we were young. Seeing her love of vintage and antique pieces inspired me and has stayed with me my entire life.”

Kevin: “I’d like to shoutout my parents for instilling in me hard work and kindness towards others. My dad has always shown my sister and I that your success and happiness come from the way you treat those around you, which has helped me on my journey through life and in business.”
