We had the good fortune of connecting with JayOrbit and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi JayOrbit, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
As corny as it sounds, giving up is not an option for me, living and growing up in poverty helps make certain things very clear, failure is a lot closer than success. Constantly pushing and working hard is a journey and it may take years but when you gain it… You’ll understand the value and also have an incredible amount of respect for your achievements.
Giving up is short and easily obtainable, just by walking away or saying “I quit” or “I give up” does the job
BUT! That action or those words is not a part of my nature.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is heavily inspired by comic book style art, seeing work from Joe Madureira, Lesean Thomas and my homie Chauncey Richards, they all have a unique style that stands out, taking a little bit of what they do and then applying it to what I do is where my style comes from, but I’m not done learning yet and there’s always room for improvement.

I can say that I am a perfectionist but me never being pleased with what I produce kind of contradicts that title… I guess, but seeing the love I get for visually sharing my thoughts is a great feeling that I am low-key addicted to lol.

It all started with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2, being able to walk around with a sketchbook that has all my tools… In pocket!? Major game changer, didn’t need to carry physical sketchbook no more, I was drawing and sketching at every chance but it wasn’t enough, I ended up buying the Note Tablet then my wife and daughter bought me a surface pro 3 and then the Note 8, more and more tools for better quality work that got me recognized by celebrities like Mike Epps, Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg and Tony Baker.

Honestly speaking, it wasn’t easy at all, so many talented artists out there, how I got noticed… I really don’t know lol.
I had a habit of keeping my head down and continuously working until I got tapped on the shoulder and was told to look up, the amount love I was getting had me in tears to be honest, I never would’ve imagined me experiencing all that love.
I grew up not having much, coming from the hood and having the odds against me, losing my mom at an early age family members applying negativity assumptions to me and losing my scholarship to go to college…. All of that then and more made me who I am today, a husband, a father, an older brother, a friend…. JayOrbit

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my homies came down to visit, I’d 1st take them to FoodRUsMiamiLLC, they make some of the most amazing Haitian dishes, you know what, I think I’d save that for last cause having one of their plates would knock you out cold lol, mad good! I’d most definitely take them to Wynwood, show them all of the amazing artwork and graffiti.
The next day we’d go to little DR for some fried fish, tostones and passion fruit juice at Plaza Seafood Market aka minuta then of course we’d go to South Beach for the vibes, the beach and the sun… Chill lol.
Start the next day with some fire breakfast at La Especial in Wynwood, they make one of the best Cuban ham egg and cheese sandwiches, afterwards we would spend some time at the gun range shooting targets at Pembroke Gun & Range, then finish the day with some fire Haitian food from Au Bon Gout Restaurant.
The next day would be a vibe, chilling at the pool with all my homies BBQ’ing and playing the world famous UNO game, the way we play get super intense but mad fun lol, later on in the evening we’d go catch a movie at Aventura mall then call it a day, my greatest times and moments come from just chillen with friends and family, I am a chill minded kind of person who loves to laugh and have a good time, it really doesn’t take a lot to activate my good vibes.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Of course I’d love to give a shoutout to my wife IsasCreationz and my daughter PoppyShorty for motivating me to always want more out of life and to be more than just good through this roller coaster called life, they are my biggest blessings. Shoutout to my best friend Rick aka jirof305 for being a solid day 1, never turning his back on me and mines, always super supportive, never steering me wrong and always having my back.
