We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayson Callejas Nicholas Deneen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayson Callejas, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When we would have lunch breaks while working for a local Miami lender, we’d always talk about how we’d work differently if we ran the company – from both an operations and sales perspective. When working for someone else you tend to think how you’d run things differently and that your way would be better. Eventually we felt we could make the leap to start our own Mortgage Loan Brokerage and build upon as well as improve on what we learned while working for the local lender.
From a sales perspective, Jayson would take more of an advisory role, Dedicating the time to asses client situations and match them with the right Mortgage Loan option or game plan towards their goals, rather than being limited to pushing select options the Lender offered. Nick on the other hand, focused on how the process from start to finish could be more efficient and streamlined, providing a better experience to the client.
Ultimately, we started our business to have the freedom and flexibility to run the company how we see fit and better serve our clients by providing genuine advice.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We started our mortgage loan broker company in September of 2020, so we have gone through the pandemic refinance boom as well as the post pandemic high interest rate environment. This has made the past 3 years very challenging, but has forced us to grow as both business owners and mortgage professionals. We believe this has allowed us to provide a more personable first hand experience to our clients. The main thing we have learned in our business journey so far, and that has really allowed us to overcome the challenges we’ve faced, is the ability to adapt. Being adaptable has been the main reason why our company has been able to grow each year and sustain itself.
What sets us apart from others is our mortgage knowledge isn’t stagnant but ever changing as we try to stay ahead on what mortgage loan products are available and how it can help better serve our clients. This has allowed us to offer loan products that most people aren’t aware of, thus being able to help the underserved and overlooked.
We want the world to know that we are not a transaction based company, but relationship based company, that will be there for you when you’re trying to obtain a mortgage loan as well as after you have obtained a mortgage loan. Homeownership goals don’t end when you get the keys, it’s just the start of the journey and we’re here for the ride.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
-Lunch at Flanigan’s -Cafecito at Vicky’s Bakery
-Frost Museum in Miami
-Pinto’s Farms
-Bike ride at Hollywood beach boardwalk
-Wynwood walls
-Pupusas at Cuscatlan
-Yellow Green Farmers Market
-Zoo Miami
-Brunch at Louie Bossi’s Ristorante and Pizzeria
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a lot of people that we can recognize and give credit to for our story from Nicks wonderful wife and Jayson’s supporting parents, but we would have to give much recognition to the owner of the lender we previously worked for- Michael Camus. Without him we would not be in the mortgage industry, let alone know how to navigate it and thrive. As an industry veteran, he taught us many things and instilled the proper work ethic and mentality to succeed within the industry.
