We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmin Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmin, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Owning a business has taught me many valuable lessons about life, people, and myself. However, the lesson that has stuck with me the most is to “trust the process.” When owning a business, there is a lot of planning, time, and hard-work that plays a role. But, sometimes things do not go according to plan and that is when you “trust the process.” There are going to be times where things take longer to play out or they don’t go how you expected them too. But, when you do trust the process, those circumstances will exceed your expectations and teach you how sometimes things may not go your way because there is something better waiting for you. Trusting the process also applies to every area in life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Owning Oh My Flan, has helped me grow so much creatively. It has given me the creative freedom to do as I please when it comes to creating new desserts, taking pictures, & decorating dessert stations. I am proud to say that Oh My Flan has also helped me positively impact many people’s lives. Not only do I sell desserts, but I also give back to the community as much as possible. I hold yearly food & toy drives, I have also donated clothing to those in need, as well as, hold a fundraiser for Dayna’s Dream Foundation. Owning a business is never easy, but it is a challenge that I choose to face everyday. It has helped me grow as a person & as a worker. I overcome these challenges with discipline, tunnel vision to my goals, & with reminding myself as to why I started in the first place. I look to continue to positively impact as many lives as I can with Oh My Flan. It’s not “just” a dessert business, it is a business that gives back to its community & supporters.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are definitely many spots & hidden gems to enjoy around Miami. But, my first stop would be to eat at Aoki in Dadeland Mall being that it is one of my favorite restaurants. The next stop would have to be in the Coconut Grove/Coral Gables area. It is such a chic & cute area with many things to do and great places to eat. Some of my favorite spots to eat in the Coconut Grove/Coral Gables area are Greenstreet Cafe, Tap 42, Mister 01 Pizzeria, Morelia Gourmet Paletas, & Ace’s Icees truck. Brickell is another spot I would go to for the nightlife, instagrammable restaurants, and the beautiful city lights. We can’t forget about the Miami Beaches. Key Biscayne, is my favorite beach to go to and get sun kissed.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are many people that I have to thank for the success in my career. I first want to thank all of my family & friends that have supported me in many ways from doing events with me & to putting my name out there with people they encounter. Without the support & love from my family & friends, I would not be where I am today. I also greatly appreciate every single one of my customers and supporters. They are the ones who keep me going & who are helping me on this journey of accomplishing my goals & dreams, I appreciate the constant support from them whether it is on social media, orders, at events, & referring me to people they know. I am so grateful to have encountered so many amazing, & supportive people in my life who want to see me succeed.
