We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Riman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeff, what is the most important factor behind your success?
When I first got into the pet products space I realized how poorly and unsafe so many of the products were. There is no real regulation or compliance and so to me it seemed to be a real free for all. You were lucky if you actually bought a pet product that was natural, safe and effective. I developed a very easy philosophy which I refer to as “P and P over P”. What this stands for is “put products and pets over profits” To some business owners this may seem counter productive. But when your passion is to create the best pet products possible, you’ll see it totally makes sense. What happens from there is, and specially in the pet space is that if a product is working or the pet owner and of course their pet love the product they become customers for life. This is a definite factor for success. The more trust my customers have for our products the more value this adds to our brand.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Around 1996 or so I worked for one of the countries largest media and broadcast companies. At that time it was one of the largest companies I’d worked for and had never really made presentations to a large group of people all sitting around a conference table. After being asked to present a project I was working on which i thought would be half a dozen or so other creative people. We I walked into a conference room loaded, I mean there was even people standing. if I had to guess there was easily 50 or so people there. This was one of the moments that I had to really utilize the expression “sh*t or get off the pot.” This was also a proud and defining moment for me. I realized that we can take control of these kinds of situations and use them to our advantage. There’s power in that.

If there was anything i’d want the world to know about me, I think, it would be that I put my heart and sole into my companies. The look and feel of the brand, the product quality and that I sacrificed so so much to build these businesses.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend coming into Florida, I think the first thing I’d do is head west to Naples, Florida. I’m a huge fan of the beaches there and the sunsets rival anything you can see in Key West. Lots of top tier restaurants, and since I am a self proclaimed foodie.. great food is a must. There is some great shopping, lots of nature walks, and even a great zoo in Naples and lots of local wildlife.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Several years ago I partnered up with a retired Cardiologist. His knowledge in chemistry and formulating proprietary blends and compounds was a huge opportunity to me. Knowing that I had so many ideas for new products, his ability to help us formulate and make market ready products was a big head start.
