We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Juel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing I can say about my industry that outsiders are probably unaware of would be how cutthroat and vain it can be. There are a lot of service level issues within the beauty industry. For example, aesthetics; a lot of people follow trends based simply on the aesthetic of it as apposed to the deep rooted issues associated with the reasoning as to why we do said trends.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a makeup artist, and hairstylist. I can remember the first time I bought my first set of makeup brushes from an oldie but goodie brand, BH Cosmetics. From that moment on I knew God blessed me with a gift which was to make others feel their best self. My motivation for the craft came from being bullied as a child and wanting to be set apart from the rest. My first counter job at Dior showed me how cut throat this industry can be and inspired me to create my own lane as being the best artist I can be despite the naysayers. It was definitely not easy but to overcome the challenges I simply zoned in on what I wanted to accomplish and did all things in my power to do said things. I want the world to know that despite what anyone tells you, you matter, your voice matters, your craft matters and continue to push through until you are where you desire to be.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question is a little hard for me based on the fact that I don’t really go out much haha. I have a few select placed i go to what I like to say “catch a vibe” if I’m craving sushi, my first choice is definitely Happy Fish Sushi. The menu is extensive and the drinks are amazing. If i want to see some amazing views I’ll most likely head down to wynwood or brickell.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to shout-out my sisters Joanna, Jasmine, Journee, and of course my mother and father; Cypriann and Elvis. My family is my constant motivation to continue pushing towards my dreams. All of my sister are very ambitious, Joanna owns her own company called “All Here” which is education driven which really has inspired me the most. All odds were stacked against her and she still persevered. Jasmine constantly keeps me on track to stay focused and ignore the unnecessary drama that comes with life. Journee is my mini me, she reminds me to stick to my passions and that’s all anyone really needs. My mother and father are my support system, whichever decision I decide to go with they always back me up 100%. If I were to shoutout anyone it would have to be them and of course I can’t forget God. My belief system keeps me sane in this crazy world we live in.
