We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Robin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For as long as I can remember, being a creative and artistic person has always played a huge role in my life. I knew I was never going to be satisfied with an office job or anything unrelated to a creative field. If I couldn’t create something on a daily basis Id go crazy lol. Plus I get to have fun hair colors without a boss telling me I can’t!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Most of my clientele know me as DeadGoregousFX
I’m a special fx/body painter & Hairstylist
As a hairstylist I get to bring out the beauty in others and help them feel their best. I focus on lived in blondes, styling and creative colors.
But when I’m not at the salon I’m body painting and creating creating monsters from various kinds. I’ve been studying the art of body painting and sfx makeup since 2012, it all started with my role as a scare actor at Halloween horror nights. I fell in love with the makeup I was wearing. I’ve always loved horror and spooky things and knew I wanted to create them my self.
After Halloween horror nights I continued to learn how to use an airbrush and prosthetics at my local haunted attraction, Enigma haunt, located in Boca Raton, FL. There I got to master my skills.
In 2018 I got accepted to be apart of the Miami RAW artist event and decided to body paint for the first time ever. It was a thrill and experience I’ll never forget and continue to seek after. Since then I’ve been hired for a couple events, such as Art Basel, florida tattoo convention and won 3rd place in the west palm continuum body painting competition.
It hasn’t been the easiest journey with my art but I’m continuing to learn and excited for what’s to come. My ultimate goal is to get into the Local 798 union and work for tv and film. And maybe one day get to work on a marvel or Star Wars movie/tv show.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a sucker for craft cocktails, funky or whimsical atmospheres and latte art. So if I had to choose I would 100% be visiting Glitch in Fort Lauderdale for retro vibes and great music with arcade games to entertain, or Brew next door in fat village for a delicious latte with the most beautiful decor
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom has always been my biggest supporter, she allowed me to be the weirdo and creative that I am, ever since I was a little girl and it all begins with her being so open to my artistic madness.
I feel so loved to have many people in my life who support the artist that I am, aside from my mother, my boyfriend Jimmy is always rooting for me and open to all the weird that comes with being my partner in crime.
And lastly my SalonMixx group of amazing friends and artists who continue to cheer me on and grow everyday
