We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Talesman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business came from the desire to put my heart and inner purpose into everything I do. The backbone of a company really is about the culture and beliefs of its founder(s), and while I had a fantastic time working for several companies that I resonated with, I was fueled by knowing that doing it myself would be the only way to convey my full self through the business. Being an entrepreneur and having my own businesses has been a dynamic process. I think it’s important to note that I didn’t just start a business and run with that initial idea forever… I have allowed my business to transform over the years, have started new businesses, and am still learning every single day. It was essential that I started where I was and used what I had at the time, and continue to remain open-minded as I grow.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an Intimate Wedding & Elopement Photographer. I’m also a Writer, Brand Visionary & Designer, and Herbalist. The foundation of everything that I do is an innate love & grace for human beings, coupled with a passion for holistic well-being. Getting to photograph couples who are wildly in love all over the world is the most incredible job, but the bigger part of it is getting to know them deeply. From the time that I connect with someone through the day that I photograph them and continuing on (usually forever), I learn about who they are at their core, what they care about, their love language, what areas of life they need support in… Building a timeless connection early on allows me to see people for who they are, and because of this, I’m able to capture emotive photographs that can be felt. To get to where I am today professionally, I worked hard in a variety of industries. I apprenticed under other creatives that I admired for years, even while running my own business. I’ve worked 7 jobs at a time to be covered financially while also learning creatively. The journey has definitely not been easy, but I’ve learned and continue to learn so much, and love that I am now able to help others in the process. When the going gets rough and I’m facing challenges, I do my best to re-write my vision, focusing on who I am and why I’m here. Remembering the purpose underneath anything I do empowers me to keep moving forward. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are: • Take the first step, and then keep going. If you’re passionate about something or have an idea that feels great, go for it, even if you don’t feel ready. • Be open and flexible to change. What you think the ultimate vision is today may transform by tomorrow, and that’s okay. Grow with your business; trust your intuition. • Don’t compare yourself to others. There is room at the table for everybody. Be confident in who you are and what you have to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Everything and everyone that has ever been in my life has influenced and led me to where I am now, and I’m forever grateful. I dedicate my shoutout to my immediate family. Our lives are largely based upon childhood and the subconscious beliefs we learn through our upbringing. My parents have always supported and inspired creative freedom, and are themselves incredibly intelligent humans. They gave me life-changing books, taught me vital lessons, and to this day are my absolute rock. My older sister has always been a free-spirited artist and kind-hearted person. She introduced me to good music and art at a very young age, and has always ultimately done exactly what she wants to do. These three are my best friends, and I would be someone completely different had I not grown up with them.
