We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Rose McDowell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess Rose, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
Ultimately, my end goal is to continue to grow as a personal brand KINETIC SWEAT by Jess an exclusive private personal trainer, social media leader, virtual group trainer & Mental Health advocate. To become known nationwide & globally traveling offering fitness & speaking to women about body & mind. I believe I’m making a daily impact on my community, as well as woman all over the globe. My personal brand Mission, “Incline a balance in body & mind, while sprouting electrifying confidence.” Everyday I wake up mentally & physically prepared to offer myself & the tools to impact the lives around me.
Growing up an athlete & fitness junkie there were several times I turned to both passions during dark seasons & it saved my life multiple times. Being able to turn my passions into careers is beyond my wildest dreams, but it took blood, sweat & tears. Building my personal brand KINETIC SWEAT by Jess from ground up aka self-made. From my branding, to website, social media,
marketing/advertising, brand partnerships, education, etc.
My entire life I’ve faced setbacks for being a strong, smart, talented, good looking woman. It was if you couldn’t be all of the above or you’d be a target. I’ve struggled with people being intimidated by me, judging me before they even got to know me, not taking me seriously, selling me out behind my back, treating me less than because I’m focused on myself & career.
I’ve even had to deal with harassment in past jobs for my figure, height & that I’m single with no children as if I have nothing in common with others. Of course I one day want to raise a family & have my career. That has always been a lifetime goal.
In each of those horrible moments I felt defeated, but then a switch flipped inside me. I decided I’d use these uncomfortable, unfair, unrealistic situations as a way to become a better version of myself & to build a business & brand. It fueled my soul to work harder (not to prove anything to anyone) but to be a strong, courageous woman that can make an impact for all women going through what I experienced. I stayed focused on my faith, visions & people who surround me that are truly for me. I forgave the people who deeply hurt me & moved on.
KINETIC SWEAT by Jess offers a place for all women to feel their best, be their best & become the “ideal woman” they envision. No one tells them who they should be or how they should look or how they should act. Our younger generations deserve to have women that they can actually connect with & feel heard. No fake filters or expectations that cause Mental Health disorders & discouragement. REAL women that genuinely take interest in what the younger generations have to say & feel. A safe space for all women to be vulnerable, & offer practical & attainable body & mind practices. That is my ultimate end goal.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am proud of my education, multiple certifications & being a creative. In college is where I really started to pursue my passion for fitness & health as a career. Living a balanced lifestyle has been engraved into everything I pursue. I graduated from The University of Alabama College of Communication & Information Sciences with a bachelors in Advertising & Minor in Political Science. I then earned my American College of Sports Medicine CPT & Spinning® Certification. My entire life, I knew I’d benefit from my education down the road when I wanted to be an entrepreneur & business owner.
Since I was a little tomboy, I dreamt about becoming an influential leader in the fitness & health industry. With a passion for sports, modeling & leadership. I always had a vision to create a brand for myself & a fitness business. Growing up in Vero Beach, FL if I wasn’t playing Sports, being active outdoors is where you’d find me! I played competitive soccer, cheerleading & volleyball. Naturally, I became a fitness junkie! As a little girl. I was obsessed with modeling & being in the spotlight, I was featured in a few productions, however stopped modeling in Middle School due to my family worried that it would affect my mental health & body image.
After college I started to shadow, learn & practice fitness in my free time. I’d envision myself in major magazines as a leading fitness professional. I bopped around the Southeast living in Mobile, AL, Atlanta twice & Charleston before moving back to my hometown Vero Beach. While working at various agencies or corporate brands. I started training at local gyms & studios learning from everyone around me, as well as observing how others ran their business, asked questions & started writing all my thoughts, goals, ideas down in a notebook. Honestly, I didn’t know when I’d fully commit to starting KINETIC SWEAT by Jess, but I knew that it was going to happen in God’s time. BAM. A tough year hit me where I had to hit rock bottom to come all the way back on top. KINETIC SWEAT by Jess was officially born.
It started as a social media fitness account inspired to ‘Incline a balance in body & mind sprouting electrifying confidence’, Now, KINETIC SWEAT® by Jess is a full-service body & mind business offering exclusive Private Personal Training & On-Demand classes. WOW! I took everything from pen & paper to the computer developing my branding, built out my entire website, created a name for myself building up my clientele, growing on Social Media earning multiple brand partnerships, networking & becoming self-made. I am the owner/founder, assistant, marketing manager, HR, account manager & so on.
The best part was combining my passion for fitness with mind activation. A year later I was signed to a dream modeling agency, SLU (Sports + Lifestyle Unlimited Model + Talent Agency). My lifetime goals all falling into place.
What does KINETIC SWEAT by Jess Mean? When I paired the words KINETIC SWEAT®, I knew I had something golden!
KINETIC is movement, acceleration, energy & motion. SWEAT is a reaction to heat & physical exertion. That is how the
KINETIC SWEAT® By Jess mantra was born, Accelerate Your Body & Activate Your Mind!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
]I moved back to my hometown Vero Beach, FL almost 3 years ago. Growing up on the Island of A1A I have been lucky to be a beach bum. Dining & shopping off Ocean Drive my goto spots are; Chelsea’s, Lily Pad, Casey’s, Bobby’s, Vinz, Sassy Boutique, Cravings, Tides, Citron Bistro, Ocean Grill, Veranda, Lazy Dazy, Vero Beach Hotel, El Sid, Treasure Lane Boutique & more.
My favorite annual events & places to explore are; Under The Oaks Art Show, Vero Beach Food, Film & Wine Festival, Vero Beach Museum of Art, McKee Gardens, Riverside Theatre plays & musicals, Countryside Citrus, Blue Angels Air Show, Oceanside Farmers Market, Downtown Friday & Riverside Park Bark in the Park, Riverside Theatre Comedy Night.
Spending time with my best friends exploring our hometown we call paradise. Taking my pup on a long run down Historic Jungle Trail, having a boat day on Indian River Lagoon or relaxing on our private beaches.
Watching our Historic Downtown grow over the years has been exciting to watch. We now have an art district with beautifully painted murals & walls, tons of new shopping, bars & dining. A must see when you visit!
There are endless things to do here!
I love visiting Miami wether its to see a Miami Heat game, Dolphins game or Marlins game. I crave the city energy & that everyone is hustling doing their own thing. Being able to drive a few blocks & you’re in a completely different part of the city. All the small towns that have grown over the years & the culture. My goto fitness studio of course is SoulCycle Brickell & Coral Gables. My favorite spots are B Bistro + Bakery, Wynnward Art District (especially the new Graffiti Museum), Vizcaya Museum, Mignonette Downtown, MOXIES Miami, Joia Beach, SLS Miami Beach, The Gabriel Miami Downtown, Amara at Paraiso, DIOR Cafe, SoCal Cantina, Institute of Contemporary Art & the Parking Garage, Bayside Marketplace, Nikki Beach, Naked Taco & more. You can’t go wrong with a mom & pop Cuban spot either.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Gosh this is going to be hard because I’ve got a few. First, I’d like to give a shoutout to my mother, Karen Rose Deigl. She is the strongest woman I’ve ever met. The most selfless woman I’ve ever met. The most giving woman I’ve ever met. She is one of the main reasons I’m here today & never gave up. She is my best friend! If I can accomplish 25% of what she has I’d be content. (Look her up!) Thank you mom for giving me the lifestyle I live & pushing me even when I thought you were trying to be against me. She has worked harder than anyone I know for the life we have.
Now onto my role models, Alex Morgan, Katrina Scott, Kay Adams, Brandi Chastain & Nick Saban, among others in the Sports industry…but I’d have to say Katrina Scott. She has been an icon of mine for over 12 years. I remember when Tone It Up first started I was mesmerized by her fitness ideas, poise, energy, work ethic, values, TIU brand, everything about her. She carries herself with great confidence & power. One of the first digital fitness platforms! It set the tone (no pun intended) for me & what I envisioned for myself as a successful business woman in fitness, modeling & life. A life goal of mine is to earn the opportunity to partner with Tone It Up to have my own series. Katrina constantly gives back to her community & never let her ego, fame or success change who she is. I’ve always been able to relate to her & trust her via Tone It Up & following her on different platforms. I’d like to think we have a lot in common too! 🙂 I’ve modeled myself after her in my community & how I treat others, giveback & contribute to society. It would be a dream to sit with her.
Alex Morgan & Brandi Chastain have broken the mold for women as professional Athlete’s & that I’ll be forever a fan. They stood for what they believed in & spoke out when they knew society might not fully approve. The way they glide on the field is truly a special talent. I admire how they never took advantage of the spotlight or acted out of greed. On & off the field they demonstrate to women of all ages to never limit yourself. They utilized there platforms to speak out about causes that are dear to them, while being kick butt business women. Sports is all I thought about as a little girl (still to this day). I’d play soccer in my backyard for hours a day. I’d envision myself on the US Women’s Soccer Team playing in the Olympics. I also was obsessed with UNC Women’s Soccer & Manchester United.
Kay Adams broke the mold for women working in professional sports. Why? Because she knows her stuff. She didn’t let the outside noise stop her from what she envisioned for herself. There is nothing wrong with grabbing the bull by its horns & owning it. I have looked up to her since day one in 2017 when Good Morning Football started to air on NFL Network. As a lead host of the show, as well as a host on NFL Sunday Ticket. She popped up & went nowhere but up. To watch a young attractive, smart, kind, funny, driven women take over multiple mass media mediums was refreshing & inspiring to witness. I continue to watch her & follow her on Social Media. She continues to push through barriers as a successful women that is not judged by her personal life, but her damn good hard work is what matters most! I am obsessed with her brave grit & witty personality. She truly will forever be a women I look up to.
