We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Steinke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jess, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Last year, I experienced a slew of health issues that started me on my healing journey. I was fatigued, depressed, and experiencing brain fog and other symptoms. The journey that ensued was a process of unlearning and relearning the things I thought I knew about my body and about my definition of health. I was so surprised by some of the things I learned, both about the human body and how our modern society is contributing to chronic illness, that it became my life’s purpose to spread the message with other women. The easiest (or so I thought at the time) way to do this, was by getting a certification in the field and starting my own integrative health practice. Since I had a background in engineering and no real health coaching experience, I knew opening up my own practice was the first step if I truly wanted to be able to help other women heal their physical and mental health.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In my practice, I’m most proud of the fact that I’m reconnecting women with their bodies, something that has been discouraged in our society for a long time. Most of us live in our heads, and make decisions from a place of logic. We seek out supposed “experts” when we feel ill, only to be told to take a pill for the rest of our lives. I empower women to take radical self-responsibility of their healing to ultimately revolutionize their idea of health. I educate on healthy lifestyle habits like the importance of sunlight, proper nutrition & stress management, feeling your emotions, living a life you love, minimizing toxins in your everyday products, and more. I truly believe that we have most of what we need to heal our symptoms within us, as our bodies are healing every day. Your body is brilliant and it knows what to do if we just get out of its way! This sets me apart from other practitioners and health coaches because even in the holistic community, the “pill for every ill” mentality still runs rampant. Only instead of prescriptions, it’s by way of supplements. This was not an easy thing to learn for me. Initially, when I was healing from mold toxicity, I reached for supplements. A year later, I felt way better, but was still struggling with some symptoms. Only then did I look to my lifestyle and ask myself, “Are these habits the reason I got sick?” It took effort to change my habits alone, which is why my signature coaching program is a small group program. I think healing in community is powerful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a Tampa native, I love this question! Visiting the Tampa Riverwalk downtown is a must. It’s 2 miles of restaurants, bars, and fresh air. I’d grab a sangria or mojito at the Columbia Cafe and then end up at Ulele for dinner – they have amazing, fresh seafood! Visiting the Dali museum in St. Pete is also a must. Grab brunch at their Spain-inspired cafe first, then tour the museum to see some of Dali’s greatest works.
And of course, no visit to Tampa would be complete without going to the beach! Indian Rocks Beach is my favorite if you’re wanting quite time, and St. Pete Beach is the best for it’s upbeat party scene.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would 100% not be where I am today without the love and support of my parents, my younger sister (who at times feels like an older sister), and my husband. My parents showed me what it means to be a hard worker. My sister and her sage wisdom keep me sane. My husband is my rock and believed in me when I wanted to go off the traditional path of a corporate job and start my own business in an area I had little to no prior experience. Of course, I also have to shoutout my wonderful mentor, Taylor, who has gone from supporting me throughout my healing journey in the seat of practitioner, to now helping mentor me in business. Thank you for being someone I can look up to who is following the road less traveled in life!
