We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessenia Acuna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessenia, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Deciding what input to receive and which let go, not just the perspective of others but also what podcast I listen to, what books I read, what foods I ate, how I used social media, and which thoughts I allowed to stick. Things became easier when I understood that although I may not be able to control most aspects of life, I have agency in what I allow in. This decision came through a growling process of self awareness, becoming more honest with myself and looking at my own blindspots. It’s a choice I make everyday since I am constantly evolving and always learning. I choose to be self reflective and have radical compassion in the process so that I may continue to grow while feeling at peace with who I am today and what I have to offer.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am passionate about physical and mental well-being. Not necessarily the industry, but the essence of learning to navigate life’s challenges and living in a state of alignment. I believe it’s difficult to fully capture what true wellness is about. I decided to open my own private practice in order to address the complexities of the human experience. At Soho Holistic Therapy, we believe that we must look at the whole person and explore how different facets of life impact self-development and life-satisfaction. We focus mental well-being through various humanistic and existential modalities as well as alternative practices such as breath work, yoga, meditation, and somatic healing. We help people explore areas of opportunities in lifestyle, movement, sleep, health, and relationships to create the kind of impact and change they are looking for. Our goal is to create a space for the depth of the human experience so that individuals and communities can thrive. We believe that the more empowered and authentic people feel, the better the world is for everyone.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Palm Beach area, near the intercostal. A walk or bike ride along the water and into Palm Beach Island toward the beach. Along the way there is a must try smoothie and breakfast bar, Celis, they have one of the best acai bowls in town. For food, I really enjoy RH restaurant for their views and great bites. You can go in the day time or evening and it’s guaranteed that you’ll have a great time. If you’re up to it, do a little shopping at the square or on the island (if luxury is what you’re up to!) and end the day with dinner and drinks at Planta (for vegans) or El Camino. If you have a sweet tooth you can stop by an adorable and delicious ice cream truck, Angie’s Epicurean. Cheers!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The list is endless! I have received so much encouragement from partner, my family and closest friends. I am very fortunate to have a very supportive system who believes in me and reminds me of what I am capable of even when can’t see it. I am grateful to many of my previous supervisors who pushed me beyond my comfort zone and helped me identify my strengths and find my voice. The encouragement and space I received from them to explore my interests and passions has truly been the greatest gift. I also thank the incredible educators I have met who opened the doors to new perspectives and horizons. Thanks to them, I have traveled beyond what I could have imagined and learned first hand what people mean when they say the world is your oyster.
