We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Prieto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, how does your business help the community?
Travel With Curls originated as a travel blog recounting my experiences as a foreigner in various countries. As I shared my interactions and adventures connecting with people worldwide, the blog gained momentum. My passion for connecting with diverse cultures dates back to my first solo trip at the age of 12. This lifelong passion influences all my projects and partnerships. Travel With Curls is built on the principles of connecting people, places, and cultures, aiming to break stereotypes, foster global connections, and enhance cross-border communication skills for both business and travel. I firmly believe that understanding diverse cultures fosters acceptance and learning from one another. Embracing these differences helps us grow both individually and as a more inclusive society.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My entrepreneurial journey began early, teaching me the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone to turn ideas into reality. Despite numerous rejections and self-doubt, I learned that the biggest challenge in entrepreneurship is having a strong mindset. Overcoming obstacles and turning setbacks into lessons, I’ve developed a robust foundation for personal growth.
My venture, Traveler With Curls, serves as a platform for travel enthusiasts seeking genuine connections worldwide. Through this, I’ve built businesses and fostered global partnerships, emphasizing connections between people, places, and cultures.
In my consulting business, Conquer Media, I assist entrepreneurs in defining clear goals and providing effective solutions. Additionally, my Norwegian venture, Single & Entrepreneuring, connects professionals across Europe, promoting genuine international connections for business growth.
Each of my businesses addresses challenges I’ve personally faced, aiming to provide solutions. Currently, my focus lies in clarity consultations, helping businesses understand their goals clearly. I advocate for deep cross-border communication, promoting acceptance and understanding among diverse backgrounds, and fostering genuine connections that drive business success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love exploring Fort Lauderdale, it offers a mix of relaxation, culture, and outdoor activities, based on your preferences and interests.
– Explore the Beach and Waterfront, you’ll enjoy the soft sand and beautiful sunrise. Then head to a local beachfront café for a hearty breakfast and freshly brewed coffee.
– Visit the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens, a historic home with lush gardens and intriguing art exhibits. Then, have lunch at a beachside restaurant. Fresh seafood is a must-try in Fort Lauderdale.
– Visit the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park for a picnic and leisurely walk amidst nature and explore the Butterfly World, a tropical paradise featuring thousands of butterflies and exotic plants.
– A MUST, experience a sunset dinner cruise, enjoying panoramic views of the coastline as the sun sets.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
At every stage of my journey, I encountered influential people and experiences that shaped my path to success. Growing up, I faced ridicule and bullying due to my unique qualities, leading to rebellious behavior in high school. With a 0.5 GPA and a bleak outlook, my turning point came when my guidance counselor, Richard Lecker, confronted me with a pivotal question: “Are you happy with who you are now?” This question catalyzed a change in me. With determination and Mr. Lecker’s tough love, I graduated with a 2.5 GPA, gained admission to a university, and eventually fulfilled my dream of moving abroad and starting a business. Each challenge I faced thereafter became an opportunity to grow stronger and more resilient. I constantly reminded myself that if I could overcome my past struggles, I could face any future challenge with wisdom and strength.
