We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Stinemire and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have two boys that have been in sports since they were very little and have the standard posed end of season photos. Ive always tried to take photos of them while they were playing but the quality just wasn’t there. I realized I probably wasn’t the only parent missing out on these memories and after a while of going back and forth on the uncertainty of taking the leap to invest in myself, I took the plunge. Being able to photograph the moments that not only kids, but all ages, doing what they love without breaking the bank, is an indescribable feeling.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m about as new as you can get to photography, but I’ve always been fascinated by professional sports photos. Being able to capture people in action and see their hard work at play, seeing how excited they are when they get to see their photo has brought a different level of happiness in my life. Knowing people can look back and smile at what they did and accomplished over times in their life that was important to them is what drives me.
There is quite a learning curve to photography. My education so far in it has been mostly YouTube and web articles. There are so many aspects to the camera, lenses and editing softwares alone. I still have so much to learn, but love the challenge and use it as motivation to see my work progress and be able to offer better quality photos.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I personally love a good day trip. Whether that’s taking the brightline down to Miami and visiting the Frost Museum after a great lunch at the Perez Art museum or driving to Bill Baggs Cape State park and touring the lighthouse, riding bikes by the water.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be able to do anything without my family. From my kids helping me pick out their favorite photos to my family and friends for encouraging and believing in me. I’m blessed to not just have my own family but my fire family as well, being supportive and willing to help wherever they can.
