We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Weiss Levison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Jump! When you believe in something so deeply and it brings you enormous joy – jump! Throughout my three different careers, I may not have had all the details figured out but I pursued vocations that brought me joy. That naïveté and blind ambition took me in directions that I could have never planned. For example, I could have never predicted that pursuing my passion for ice cream would lead me to launch a national ice cream company that was featured on The Today Show and sold in over 1,500 retailers – all in our first year.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar.
As any parent knows, the struggle to get kids to eat veggies is REAL. For my own kids, my goal is always serving a balanced meal but that isn’t always a reality. The reality is that sometimes getting my kids fed and happy is more than enough and we’ll leave the greens for tomorrow! That’s the challenge that inspired Peekaboo Ice Cream – the only ice cream on the market with ½ cup of hidden veggies per scoop (think: spinach, cauliflower, and even beets). At Peekaboo, we are building the future of better-for you ice cream by giving you more of what you need (veggies), together with more of what you want (ice cream)!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Surfside! The Town of Surfside, FL is such a beachside gem. I would take them to the beach at 94th street in the morning, then a stroll through Bal Harbour Shops for lunch and Serendipity Creamery for ice cream. For dinner, we would head to the Four Seasons Surf Club Restaurant or Chotto Matte on Lincoln Road. The next day would be filled with a morning exploration of Frost Museum, lunch in Wynwood and a stroll through the Design District for an afternoon coffee.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It truly takes a village. From my incredibly encouraging husband – to my overeager parents who help with the kids however necessary – building a company and raising a family would be impossible without their support.
