We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesus Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesus, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I look back then I realize that I was always involved with fitness but only a few years back I turned my hobby into my profession. Throughout my teenage years I had several jobs from park cleaner, nursing home assistant, after school program counselor, Retail Sales Associate at GNC, to teaching and working with autistic children. I was not passionate about any of those jobs and I only got excited to spend my free time at the gym. I graduated college with my Bachelors in Exercise Science and started to train and advise friends and family members. Overnight I made the decision to move from New York to Miami to work at Equinox. The health and wellness lifestyle in Miami lead me to the decision to build my own brand BXJ Training. A brand that motivates and inspires my clients to “Become What You Believe”, that’s what I believe and support. To guide and watch my clients during their transformation process makes me happy. Today business and entrepreneurship is one of my favorite topics. You meet so many amazing entrepreneurs and business owners in Miami that inspire you. My job is so much more than training and I get to learn every day something new.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BXJ Training provides private one-on-one training dedicated to your fitness level and goal. My clients can choose between weight training, sport specific training, musculoskeletal orthopedics, corporate training, semi-private sessions, boxing and assisted stretching. The pandemic was very challenging for me cause I had to shift most of my business to online training and nutrition guidance. That’s were currently my focus is on. I truly believe that especially during this time it’s more important than ever to stay healthy and fit. The great news is that this is all possible from home with minimum equipment. Perfect example is a group of women I’ve trained online twice a week via Zoom. There are so many workout videos out there you can follow but it’s a completely different atmosphere when you know you are not alone and you do this together and motivate each other. I bring with me patience because I have a vision and believe in the client’s goal. I sometimes feel like an architect that plans the house before it’s built. I am proud and happy with every email I receive saying “you changed my life, thank you for believing in me”. Giving an individual more years of life, the feeling of less pain from a past injury and growing with clients throughout training is my confirmation that BXJ Training is working. I am who I am today because of God and the ambition my mother always showed me throughout my life “never give up on yourself and if you jump in the ocean it’s either you sink or you swim”. I have worked hard my whole life but after my coma in 2014 I changed my mindset and became a better version of myself. Do what makes you happy and only you can decide what makes you happy. What makes me happy is changing someone’s life. What I want the world to know about me and BXJ Training is that God has a plan for all of us and we are meant to bring light in this world to help one another. I want BXJ to shed light in a place where we can show the world how powerful we are when you “Become What You Believe”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh where do I start… Miami is just one of those places where you want to go wild and end up forgetting your last name. Since my life surrounds about fitness I usually start with showing my visitors my favorite gym in town Elev8tion fitness. The equipment is like no other, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the great music gets you hype. You can get one of the best workouts done while you are on vacation. After a good workout I love to show my friends around different areas. When you are from New York then the first thing you think about is Ocean drive, Lincoln road and Mangos. I am an outdoor enthusiast, so I like to take them to a beach like Crandon Park or for a nice view at South Point Park or walking around the Design Districts which always creates great vibes. I can never say no to a good burger or chicken sandwich, therefore one of my favorite spot is LoKal in Coconut Groove or the Chicken Spot in Miami Beach. If I am in the mood for some good Sushi then I would pick Kraken Crudo in Midtown Miami. Even though I am a trainer I also have a sweet tooth and can only recommend Night Owl or Mojo Donuts. I would finish up the night with a drink at Casa Florida or one of the bars with some good Spanish music in Wynwood.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost my main shoutout goes to GOD. Every moment I felt I was alone and didn’t know how to find my way-out God has guided me. But there has been so many individuals in my life that have made my business grow immensely. My mother is a very driven individual that always pushed me to be my best, my loved once that I can call whenever I need to get their opinion and point of view. Everybody who believed in me during rough times. Lastly, all the personal trainers and coaches that have taken their time to sit with me and talk/teach me about their business.
