We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhenelle Hill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jhenelle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has defined my career in Beauty from it’s inception. I Entered the the industry as a Makeup artist, not necessarily a traditional secure career compared to being a doctor, lawyer, nurse etc. It takes bravery to walk the road less traveled, and even more courage to create your own lane in this economy. Especially when you are surrounded by nay sayers, critics & people who do not believe in you.

I moved to NY with bare minimum funds and boot strapped a startup beauty agency called Neon Fix. Though intimidated by the big city and the prospect of even calling myself a “Celebrity Makeup Artist” I forged forward & manifested clients such as CoCo & Breezy, Savanaha Brinson James, Serena Williams & Torrei Hart.

The real risk test in my career came when the pandemic hit & I was forced to shut down my company. I meditated on my next move, took a leap of faith & pivoted into E-commerce. I now have the largest Online Ethnic Beauty Supply store on the planet. In retrospect playing it safe in my life has actually been dangerous to my lively-hood and stunted my growth as a Professional.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Footprints Cafe in Brooklyn for breakfast Omar’s Kitchen for lunch
Di Silvano’s for dinner but they closed down 🙁

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother for going to Beauty School & inspiring me to be a Makeup Artist. Jackie Morris – Rock Start Career Coach & Michelle “Mechi” Rodriguez as they first introduced the concepts to me about “manifestation” and “Your thoughts create your reality”.
