We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhienes Moreira and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jhienes, what was your thought process behind starting your own business? Before my photography career, I had a stable professional life as an accountant. When I realized photography was my true passion, the toughest process behind it was the idea of a transition. Fear of giving up the stability of my career, I felt as if I was wasting the time and money I invested and that made me question my decision. Most of all, I was terrified of changes.
What should our readers know about your business?
I see photography as moments, life, experiences. Each session goes beyond poses and landscapes, when I’m looking through my lenses, I’m registering memories, emotions and connections. For me, the main goal of a photoshoot is the ability of allowing life to happen, the picture come as a result of it. As a photographer, the connections I create with people are the most valueble part of it, making sure we’re having a great time and being there to register these unique stories so they can look at the photo-frame and relive it all over. When I first started capturing for a living I had to start my life from scratch, learn a whole new art, audience and concepts. Each time I finished a course, tested a new lense, I’d get more and more excited, and was this energetic feeling that made me keep going on. I had lots of ups and downs in these years of photography but what helped me overcome them was already in me, I had just forgotten. My main core is movement, even if things aren’t great, opportunities come when we’re out there. I’m so honored to be here, in NYC, with my camera ready to embrace this crazy but amazing movement in the city that never sleeps with the authentic stories that cross my path. The result, eternalized movement with this world <3
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend got here in the weekend, we’d go straight to Brunch at Northern Souls with my favorite mimosa and the amazing vegan options (cauliflower would be a must). After, we’d head to my favorite region to thrifshop: Queens, explore the vibrant life of this neighborhood with a lot of style. For dinner, Time Out Market facing the breathtaking views of Brooklyn Bridge and the city lights. Speaking of Brooklyn, we’d have to explore Bushwick as well and stop by a bookstore and for a coffee ofc. Last but not least, rooftop is a must and I know the perfect one at 38th, Daintree’s cocktails and views give a great toast.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As I started my career as a photographer I wasn’t only learning new camera angles, but a whole different life view. Everything had changed, and, throught this process, my mom was always beside me, excited with every single shoot. I would like to dedicate my journey to my beloved mom, Margarete. Thank you, I love you. I’d also like to shoutout to my fellow photographers that registered with me this incredible journey, special thanks to Thalyta Dias, Lhairton Costa, Caroline Castro and Nycolle Suabya.
