We had the good fortune of connecting with Jhoslen Muniz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jhoslen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved the idea of having my own business which is why I chose a degree in business administration fresh out of high school. What having my own business meant is that I would have freedom to create my own unique solutions for the people I help, love what I do, who I work with, make as much money as I want, and have more time to spend with my family. My father in his later years was an entrepreneur in a way – he was a carpenter, and he would work mainly on boats doing what he knew best – carpentry. I know that being an entrepreneur, I could take my skillset and apply it in this same way, just happens to be my passion was for business and finance. I also knew I would have flexibility in my schedule and freedom on what business I create. That creative process of starting something from the ground up and seeing it grow fascinates me. It’s interesting because my original career started in the construction industry and I enjoyed seeing a building start from the ground up, you lay the foundation, then you do the walls and then the inside and that to me has always been a really cool thing that I enjoy to experience. I also feel I can solve the problems I want to solve and the sky is the limit on the growth you want to have. Having more flexibility and more control over my life brings me joy. And just feels like, I can create my own unique essence and share that with my clients.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What I’m most proud of in my business is that I have really taken the time to figure out a unique formula that can help my clients succeed in their businesses, accomplish the things that matter to them most and create a legacy for their families. I realized along the way that what matters is the person that I am, my unique gifts and how I can help and solve problems, the advice that I give and the proactive nature of the service. I have a CPA practice that specializes in tax and wealth building strategies, and we don’t just see you once a year and record history. We proactively check in with you and we tailor our services to solve your unique problems and help you accomplish your unique goals. We work on strategy, and we help our clients build a tax savings plan, solve unique business problems, manage their accounting, and grow their business so they can live their best lives. And we really take those goals seriously and we are champions of our client’s success. We enjoy seeing our clients evolve and measure what they accomplished along the way to working with us. We see ourselves as lifelong trusted advisors for our clients.

Getting into my own business was not easy. I knew I wanted a business, but I had a very fulfilling career that paid me very well. Leaving that steady paycheck and the comfort of an employer where you have a team, and you are not alone making all the decisions by yourself was hard. The challenges that come with a business can be very stressful and yes, there’s freedom but there’s also challenges. It was hard to leave the paycheck. It also affected my family. I had to make sure my husband was onboard which thankfully he has been very supportive and my #1 fan.

I overcame the challenges of leaving my last corporate job of 12 years in a fortune 500 company by investing in myself. I worked with coaches in every area you can think of – sales, practice management, tax strategies, etc… I became a nerd of the trade. I joined Facebook groups where my counterparts hung out so I could read and learn. I built my toolbox and sharpened my skills. I crafted my confidence as a practitioner to be able to put my best foot forward for my clients. And when I finally felt like I had it somewhat figured out I went for it. I knew I could provide value.

So many lessons I’ve learned along the way… You don’t always have all the answers. And perfection kills progress. Take small steps every day and when you look back, you’ll see what you’ve built, and there’s always going to be more room to learn, grow and improve. So it’s an ever evolving process. The best advice I can give is surround yourself with mentors and other colleagues that go through the same thing. Because it’s very helpful to have people around you that are doing the same thing you are to get inspired and to share ideas.

What I would like the world to know about us and my brand and story is you really can create the future of your dreams. And working with the right team of experts gets you farther then on your own. I have always loved this quote – If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” ~African proverb.

That is the very foundation of JMuniz CPA – is to help clients get to their dreams and go as far as they want to go.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I just recently visited Naples for Memorial weekend and that was probably one of the best weekend’s I’ve had this year. We enjoyed boating, delicious food and our friends. What we like to do is we like to be out in the ocean under the sun. And we really love the boating lifestyle. So, if my best friend was in the area, I would rent somewhere in the Florida keys, we would take our boat down there, go out boating, hang out at the sandbars and experience delicious food and great company. That’s really what I love to do on our free time. When you’re out there, my mind is relaxed and I find that peaceful tranquility in the water and the scenery.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Gosh, there’s so many people that I can think of that have contributed to my success. Starting with of course, my father and the values he instilled in me. My friends and family have been instrumental. My husband, for all the support he’s given me throughout the years, you know, he’s seen me grow, obtain my credentials and all those technical and business trainings I have invested in. And most recently, my colleagues in the industry, my CPA friends that have helped me along the way and mentors that I’ve had. There are a lot of people that I’m thankful for in my journey.
