We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Berti and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Workery during lockdown and it became my passion project that gave me something to look forward to when I was feeling burnt out with my corporate HR career. The idea behind Workery is that we’re an innovative and strategic human resource agency – we’re not your typical boring and stuffy HR and we don’t exist just to hire and fire people. Our focus is to elevate your operations as an employer and engage your team, which leads to better customer experiences and higher profits. Our mission is to help organizations take a more modern people-first approach, and we do that by demystifying managing your team and supporting you at every stage of business. Whether you’re hiring your first employee, scaling your team, or looking to realign, we ensure that everything runs smoothly so that you can invest your time into leading your business.
We offer several services –
1. HR audits – risk assessments for organizations that already have employees. Audits review all areas of your HR operations and identify gaps in your current processes to help avoid legal risk. We focus both on best practices and employment laws to ensure you’re not only compliant but also approaching your team strategy in a way that will best support your business operations.
2. Growth package – for solopreneurs looking to hire their first employee(s). We provide you with a streamlined process and strategy that will prepare you to onboard these new employees with ease. This includes things like identifying and implementing a payroll provider, writing job descriptions, creating policies, implementing unemployment and workers comp insurance, creating a new hire paperwork onboarding suite, and more.
3. Ongoing support – monthly retainers for clients who would like to fully outsource their HR operations.
4. Advising on an hourly basis for one-off employee situations that may arise.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A few of our favorite restaurants to take friends and family when they visit are:
– Jaguar Sun for delicious homemade pasta
– Seaspice for beautiful view that is quintessential Miami!
– MaryGold’s Florida Brasserie for french-inspired food (get the fennel pollen caesar – you won’t regret it)
– Old Greg’s for amazing pizza
The last time we had a friend in town we spent the day at Nikki Beach relaxing and then hit up Palace Bar on South Beach for the best drag show I’ve seen. Do the brunch! The food is great and the show is 10/10. Lastly, always catch a Marlins game and cheer on my husband, Jon Berti!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my husband, Jon, who has been my biggest supporter from day one when Workery was just an idea during lockdown. I was losing my passion for my career and when others may have been skeptical about a remote HR company, he had complete faith in me that I would make it a successful company that aligned with my values around what HR should look like and how employees should be put first. Two and a half years later, here we are: Workery is a team of four and we’ve worked with amazing businesses across the US and in a wide range of industries.
Imposter syndrome is real and it can be overwhelming, especially in those first few months of starting a business when you aren’t sure if it’ll work. It still creeps up periodically when I find myself faced with a season of change or a large project that will push us to the next level. Knowing that Jon is rooting for me and has never once wavered in his belief that I can make this work gives me the confidence to push forward. This is as much his endeavor as it has been mine!
