We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimmie Sussman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimmie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I beat to my own drum and following the rules has never been my dance, I knew the corporate world was not my direction. Personally, I’m instinct based, creative, unconventional, love people and the art of fashion. I wanted to fuse all these qualities and work in that. flow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Fashion styling is a unique art form because often you’re creating for the client not yourself. When working on a production it’s all about the point of view, briefs, product placement and marketing but when it’s in a personal format you have to incorporate personalities, body types, clients highlights and insecurities. It all takes time and skill to execute especially when working around budgets and time restraints. I believe what sets me apart from others is my attitude, I am flexible, easy, hardworking and always maintain a great energy. I am always most proud of the moment when clients are happy, focusing on the end goal and the excitement of the finished product. Nothing about where I am or the job is easy. There has been tears, stress, aching muscles, let downs and many other obstacles but that’s what building success looks like in most cases. It’s a journey, a drive and an adventure of highs and lows. To overcome challenges you just keep going, keep growing and keep glowing. I’ve learned from my mistakes and challenges become “how to’ tools. I guess my story is, Nothing can stop me, I’m on my way up!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my mom for so many reasons. As a child I grew up in my parents NY boutique and thus began my love affair with style. As a working mom she has taught me the juggle, balance and gratitude business. Shout out to Serena Williams and Loren Ridinger for showing me female empowerment and boss moves. Tina Van Derven for being my cheerleader and finally my family, friends and clients for their everlasting love and support.
