We had the good fortune of connecting with Jimmy Lambert and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jimmy, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
OKAICOS prides itself on the principle of feeling ‘okay’. We are a lifestyle brand deeply empowered by a mission to connect with our community and inspire change through our products and partnerships. As a business owner, I have been through my own personal journey of ups and downs and understand life isn’t always the perfect picture on Instagram. It can be tough, challenging, and at times all-consuming. It wasn’t until I decided to ask for help that I began to feel better. Once I learned that it was okay to ask for help and put what I preached into practice, I saw growth not only in my personal life but through my business and the healthy partnerships I formed. This is the foundation of my brand and what I strive to practice in my own life. Not being afraid to speak up when you’re not okay or asking for help and support when needed is stronger than suffering in silence. In my opinion, that is Feelin’ OKAICOS.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our goals and mission for OKAICOS is to create great products for our customers, promote feeling good and positive mental health and support (through our content and messaging) and have some fun along the way. I was inspired to create the brand after years of vacationing to Turks & Caicos with my family as the beach is where I feel the best. It’s my place to escape and forget about outside distractions. Turks & Caicos inspired the brand, but I believe you can “Feel OKAICOS” anywhere as everyone has their favorite place they escape to with family and friends. It is not easy creating, launching and running your own business. It can be isolating and lonely at times. I do think it’s worth it, however. Professionally it has been the most rewarding and fulfilling project I’ve taken on. I would want the world to know that, in my opinion, it’s best to focus on progress not perfection. Perfection is not attainable and if you focus on being perfect, you will burn yourself out. Instead, focus on progress and things you can do daily, weekly or monthly to achieve your goals.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Miami and the overall vibe of the city. There is so much to do. I’m also a fan of having no plans and seeing where the day takes us. I think it’s a great way to meet new people and really immerse yourself in the city. However, if I were to have an itinerary, I would keep it very chill and relaxing. In my opinion, the best days in Miami are spent at the beach. So, I would start the day walking the beach with an iced coffee and light breakfast. We’d spend our day in the sun and would end the day at the beach as well. All while wearing OKAICOS of course. We would have to make time to enjoy the sunset, that is a must for me. I would make sure to stop at a few of my favorite spots along the way including The Standard Hotel for a cocktail, Joes Stone Crab for lunch, and The Soho House for a fun vibe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family. They have supported my OKAICOS journey from inception. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have been inspired to create the brand in the first place.
