We had the good fortune of connecting with João Bocas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi João, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always had an entrepreneurial strike from a very young age, I remember going to markets in Lisbon and selling things.

But the real reason is to cause impact, plus the fact that freedom can be accessed. However it is like a contradiction because when you run a business you work much longer hours.

However working for myself suits me best, as I like to dream big.

What should our readers know about your business?
Well, I am in Healthcare, which is a pretty complex industry.

I have a passion for people, therefore I love healthcare too. Business and Life are all about people, businesses are people, customers are people, providers of healthcare are people, patients are people, and technologies are run by people.

I am extremely excited about how can people and technology can make a significant impact on humanity. I am on the mission to make Healthcare Uncomplicated by transcending the barriers to human health.

I always say that I have two passions, sport and health. Sport from my childhood and health is very close to me , as in my adult life health is precious, I wasn’t always healthy , health is everything.

I got involved in Digital Health by failing, I was doing a technology start-up and we did not succeed. From then on in 2015, I have been working relentlessly to establish myself as a leader in the healthcare industry.

We all know that failure leads to success, therefore failing is essential in business and in life.

My journey has not been easy, I came to England UK in 2001 with very poor mental health and nonexistent English skills. I’ve done all the jobs that most people aren’t willing to do and progress step by step.

I really have a fantastic story to tell the world, when the time is right I came from nothing and I had to overcome a lot of adversity, from drug addiction, homelessness, loneliness and feeling of despair – even suicidal at times.

I am a very resilient person with a big heart and a big vision for my life and that always keeps me going. Plus the help of others – success is a team sport.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I loved Miami. I would be the best person to give them an itinerary but definitely take your loved one to have a meal at the Restaurant Forte de Marmi

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family always supported me, through difficult times. My success is based on many factors, friends are important to acknowledge too.

A shout out to Miguel Sanchiz that is working hard behind the scenes to make me and the business successful.
