We had the good fortune of connecting with Jodie Roth and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jodie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am obsessed with monograms so I thought I would take my sons birth announcement and make it a forever statement piece in his nursery. I used myself as the target demographic and aligned myself with stores and big box retailers that would also appreciate the modern classic love of Butterscotch Blankees
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
. “As a mother, I was looking to give my two sons bedrooms something special where they could feel the warmth and love when they snuggled into bed each night,”.
All our products are custom made in NY and we manufacture our own yarn in Romania. We orginally bought yarn from a mill and it was a major issues of dyelots and the feel was terrible to touch we had to research how we could own our own colors and thankfully we found our partner to deliver soft machine washable acrylic based on our specs.
I have learned that you should trust your gut instinct, follow your heart and move forward. I have made plenty of mistakes along the way but believe as an owner we have grown organically by communicating and listening to our customers feedback and tweeking along the way how we can improve our business. THe customers have actually tought us how to be better!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a graduate of University of Miami- Miami is a second home to me – I would definately go to South Beach or Brickell avenue and enjoy everything that has changed there. I love to do Yoga and eat sushi – thankfully we have many options to choose from. Shopping in the Design District would be a must!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband inspired me to take a chance and just see where this turns out. He reminded me that when I was an IT recruiter in NYC I was used to rejection and this was similar and that the more stores I called on I was bound to get positive feedback from a few, its a true numbers game. I did my first show in NYC with no stores behind me and I just went and had the attitude what ever happens – I TRIED IT and thats was 14 years ago. Bottom line – dont let fear prevent you from trying something new!
