We had the good fortune of connecting with Joniqua Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joniqua, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When starting a business, all of your focus must go into it. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury to do so. When starting GDIA I was a new mom of two, new wife , working on a second degree and working full time. I was hesitant to add a business in the mix of all of that, because I am a very hands on person. However, with the push and support of family and friends, I walked out on faith.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently work in the finance department at the local hospital. I do not see this career as my end came. However, working there has helped me see the target / market need for head wraps. Working in the professional setting as a naturalista could be over whelming. Head Wraps are the perfect bit of class and grace . They are the best for both good and bad hake days.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First and foremost, I would introduce them to my family. I’ve been blessed with a very close net family. The love, fun and support that they display is unmatched . So a family bbq would be first on the list. I would then set up a girls spa day at Seven Seas Spa on Sunny Isles Beach and complete that day with a nice dinner at Victory. Brunch on Sunday for bottomless mimosas is a must.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would give all of the praise to my Husband and Mother. For years I would speak on starting a business that focused on healthy hair, something that benefits all people. I never had the guts to go for it. However, the past year they have both pushed me out of my comfort zone. They encourage and push me to be better everyday .
