We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordana Guimaraes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordana, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
The word balance changes overtime – it’s a word that you need in your life, however, the balance between work and life can tip the scale at different times of your life. What I mean by that is sometimes, the balance can weigh more on the WORK part of your life as that’s what it needs to be at the specific time to ensure success and at other times, the business can be driving itself in the way it should go, and so you can weigh more on the LIFE balance. However, I do believe now at 40 years old that it can never be an equal balance between the two and that’s okay.

What should our readers know about your business?
I today am the Co-Founder of Fashinnovation alongside my husband Marcelo Guimaraes. We founded the business to really shake up the fashion industry so that changes necessary to push the industry forward in an inclusive and sustainable way was made possible. It’s crazy to think that in only 2 years since launching Fashinnovation, we have had 400+ speakers and reached 130 countries worldwide as an audience. This was not easy as it came with working long hours and going back to the “balance” question, balancing 80% of the weight on the business and neglecting a bit of the life part at 20%. However, now that we have worked hard and made a name for ourselves, we can devote more weight on the “life” rather than business. The biggest lesson I learned is if you go into starting a business with pure intentions and transparency in who you really are, people connect to it and are open to becoming a part of the larger vision. Also that mentorship is something you should have from early years all the way to your last days, because through education and collaboration is when real magic happens. I want people to know that united we go much further in life than alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hmm… That is a good question. I would definitely take her to The Breakers in Palm Beach to stay for 2 nights to have the experience as I think it’s a stunning resort. I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants including Houstons, True Food Kitchen, Picanha, Patio Tapas & Beer and Boons Sushi. I would take them to Deerfield Beach and Las Olas to hang out on the beach and go bar hopping. All in all, I’d try as much as possible to spend time outdoors because the weather in South Florida is just incredible.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate who I am today to my mother who was an incredible superwoman in raising me and my three sisters, my sisters whom are my installed best friends in life, my entire family who shape the woman I’ve become, my husband who lets me fly and at the same time instills balance in me, my two baby girls (angels) Ariana and Isabel who drive me to be the best version of myself daily so that I can give them the world, and my close friends (they know who they are) and mentors (they know who they are) whom without I wouldn’t be here.
