We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Miranda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joseph, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve only worked at 2 brokerages since becoming a full time real estate agent in 2012. At both brokerages I worked at it I always felt like the amount of dues, fees and split were disproportionate to the value the brokerage was offering me. My feeling was if I were able to keep more of my money I could reinvest more into my business and that would lead to more closings for me and in turn generate more income for the brokerage. What pushed me to finally make the move was when I finalized my books for the year 2018 and I saw I paid in total to my brokerage more than the median income for Broward County.

So I began writing my business plan and set out to start a brokerage to test the theory of allowing agents to keep more of their money and reinvest in themselves and their business. Things have a way of working out and I’m finding that even though our fees and splits are much lower than the industry average, I’m still able to offer world class products and services to the agents in my office to remain competitive with the large franchise brokerages.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
There are a lot of factors that set Miranda Executive Realty apart from other brokerages. The first thing is the way we train. We take a mentor/coaching approach to training our agents rather than classroom training. We still offer classroom trainings, but they’re usually sponsored by one of our preferred vendors. We’ve found it’s more productive and agents succeed faster when a coach/mentor meets them where they are, rather than random trainings that agents may not be ready to apply to their business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Most people that come to town to visit want to see the beach and the ocean first. We would spend a day each at my favorite beaches in Broward County. Day 1 at Fort Lauderdale Beach and end at Las Olas for dinner and shopping. Day 2 at Deerfield Beach and head North to Mizner Park in Boca Raton for dinner and shopping. Day 3 we would go to Hollywood Beach and would probably spend the day at the beach and the Broadwalk, then head to Hard Rock Guitar Hotel for dinner and shopping

After we finish in Broward County, day 4, we’d head to Miami. Starting with Miami Beach then we’d head to Wynwood and Miami District for more food and shopping. If my friends that visit want to experience some Spanish culture we would spend day 5 at Calle Ocho. On our way home we’d make a quick stop in Doral at City Place.

On day 6 after we recover from Miami, we’ll head up to Palm Beach and go to Rapids Water Park. Then City Place (Rosemary Square) in Palm Beach for more food and shopping.

By day 7 I’ll let them rest to prepare for their trip home.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I met Johnny Madriz at my last brokerage and he joined my real estate team immediately in 2017. He was a brand new Realtor at the time and was a blank slate. I was able to teach him to sell real estate exactly how I did. He has since grown into a world class Realtor and has been a driving force supporting me and my vision as we grow together. He is now the squad leader on my team The Miranda Team and has virtually taken ownership of the team by leading our other agents on the team.
