Meet Jovanna Santamaria | Owner of the first Volleyball Devolpmental Academy in Miami

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jovanna Santamaria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jovanna, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am born and raised in Miami, Florida. As a young kid I always said I wanted to work for myself. My mother Martha Santamaria taught me the importance of what it is to Hussle for your own. I was 7 years old standing in front of my house selling lemonade, pastries and more. My roots are from my father David Santamaria who is a former volleyball player from Colombia who competed internationally who then eventually became a player and head coach for Memphis State University.

I inherited the same gift and talents and received a full ride scholarship at State College of Florida then I had the opportunity to travel to Colombia, Barquilla to train with El Equipo Atlántico the professional team at age 19. Then after transferred to Miami Dade College one of the top junior college in Florida and then finished and became a first division volleyball player for Florida International University (FIU).

I had many business trials and failures at first but then Alpha Performance Group was created with a pure purpose of helping humans become their best versions by using the sport of volleyball.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Alpha Performance Group is the first developmental facility in South, Florida. Focused on private lessons, Semi Private(2 athletes) lessons and group lessons (3-6max athletes) We are here to create, inspire and transform individuals of every race and gender to become their best version on and off the court in the sport of volleyball. Hands on professional training from former elite athletes.

What I am most proud of is that we were able to open up the first facility in South ,Florida and found a home for APG 2022.

How did I get where I am today?

Consistently, discipline, courage, belief in the process of my journey.

I want the world to know to have faith in God and trust unconditionally in your abilities beautiful things will come your way. The intention behind everything you do goes a long way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I will take my friend to APG (Alpha Performance Group) to check out this amazing facility. Then South Beach is a must! With so many different options of food right by the water. Then Downtown Miami so many beautiful restaurants and lounges. Then we will stroll to Wynwood where you can get eat and also enjoy some great music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This recognition goes to first God and then my mother and father.
