We had the good fortune of connecting with Joy Mahoney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My experience with beauty providers in the past hasn’t always been pleasant, warm, or inviting. I wanted to create an environment and experience I had always hoped I was going to receive when making an appointment somewhere.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sacred Order Beauty is a luxury beauty bar located in sunny downtown Key Largo, Florida. From the moment you step into the studio my goal is to make you feel valued and of course have you leaving feeling like your best self.
I have been offering lash extensions and permanent makeup for the last three years but currently I am most excited about facials . I chose a highly trusted and science back skincare brand to partner with and my clients are seeing excellent results after having the treatment room. My most popular treatment is the PRP microneedling.
I got to where I am business wise today honestly by not being valued at past jobs. I dedicated so much of my life my, love, and passion into places and never felt valued. I thought to myself “If I can love and care about someone else’s business this much, imagine how much I would care about something that was my own.” And those were the first steps I took dreaming up what is now my reality!
I don’t want to say it was easy, because it did take a lot of hard work, studying, and learning curves to start a business but I will say that this experience since the beginning has felt aligned for me. When we are in alignment and in tune with ourselves you can literally feel the flow and ease. I just feel like I’ve truly found my purpose in serving my clients so everything it takes for me to provide and offer that space and experience for them just makes sense.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way would probably have to be time management and saving lots of reminders in my calendar. My days off are very important to me and with wise planning it allows for me to have as much time as possible at home with my two dogs. There are also so many renewal dates and payments to keep track of when owning a business. Thank goodness for reminder emails 😅
Well I hope that my brand voice comes across with everything that I’m telling you, but it’s also honestly just me behind all of this. I guess what I would want people to know about me/take away from Sacred Order Beauty is that self care and prioritizing yourself is extremely important. When you feel good and “your cup is full” you’re able to provide so much more to those you love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop would have to be to take them by the studio and give them some beautiful lashes and a sun-kissed spray tan for week! Next stop would have to be at the Key Largo Fisheries for some fresh ceviche and conch fritters. Then take a drive down south to The Islander Resort, they have the best views in Islamorada and The Florida Keys History & Discovery Center that is a must see. Next would have to be the 7mile bridge , soaking up all the views from the bridges along the way. Finish the day with a famous frozen key lime pie on a stick and gift shop at shell world.
There is so much to do here, between snorkeling/diving, fishing, kayaking, endless water sports, dozens of state parks, and loads of great restaurants, there’s no way to get bored. I love the slow pace of the Florida Keys, it’s so different from anywhere I’ve ever lived.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my Dad’s love and support he offered me throughout my life. His dedication and hard work he put into his own business inspired me to not only create Sacred Order Beauty but provide an excellent experience to everyone who steps foot into the studio. Since his recent passing last August, it’s been challenging not being able to call and share my big wins with him, but I still feel his strength and love everyday in everything I do.
