Meet JP Salazar | Cruise Travel Expert

We had the good fortune of connecting with JP Salazar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JP, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I’m a strong believer in educated risk-taking — the kind that comes from careful analysis rather than impulse. For me, it’s about taking the time to really understand the venture, weighing it against the tools, experience, and resources I already have. It’s like doing your homework before making a move — de-risking the risk, so to speak. When you combine that kind of preparation with a strong belief in yourself, I truly think you can take on just about anything.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
For over a decade, I’ve worked across the cruise industry — from mainstream brands to ultra-luxury lines — in roles ranging from Destinations Manager to VP of Strategy. Throughout this time, I’ve seen firsthand how cruise lines go above and beyond to create unforgettable onboard experiences, yet often overlook the destination experience. Ironically, while the ability to visit many ports is the number one reason guests choose a cruise, it’s also the area where guest disappointment is most common.
I founded IntelligenSea to bridge that gap — to rethink how travelers engage with their destinations. Every place has something truly special to offer; we just need to communicate it better and equip travelers with the right information.
IntelligenSea is your go-to platform for personalized destination guidance and seamless private tour booking — designed to elevate the journey, not just the ship.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend’s visiting and needs help with their itinerary, the first thing I do is figure out their travel style and energy levels so we can make sure the activities fit their vibe and pace. The first day is always about taking it easy and recharging after the trip — usually involves finding a cute boutique café or a rooftop bar with a view.
Let’s say someone’s coming to Miami: For foodies, I’d recommend a mix of local and luxe spots — like Enriqueta’s for a casual bite, Ceviche 10-5 in Downtown Miami, or for something fancier, Lido Lounge at The Standard and Fuego at the Faena Hotel. If they’re into exploring, I’d definitely suggest watersports, the Everglades, and a day trip to the Keys for some epic scuba diving. For influencer-type friends, there’s so much to do — a day shopping in the Design District, strolling the Miami Beach boardwalk, and taking pics with those iconic lifeguard towers.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In their late 30s, two adults made a life-changing decision — that the well-being of their three children depended on finding opportunity elsewhere. At home, there was plenty of love, but no real future. So they packed a few bags, left everything familiar behind, and started over in a new land. There’s no act braver than one made out of love. Always thankful to my parents.
