We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Camilo “Juantastico” Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juan Camilo “Juantastico”, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I feel art has been part of me since I can remember. From a very early age, I started showing a special love and interest in colors, shapes, and textures. I grew up inspired by cartoons, movies, and comic books, which helped me find my skills as an illustrator. Then, when it was time to “choose a path” in life, I found that a career in graphic design was the perfect field to express my ideas and the place to find my identity as a person and as a professional artist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to define my design style as a retro mix of colors, shapes, and textures with creative custom-crafted illustrations filled with personality and a vibrant look and feel. One of my goals as a designer is to create a strong visual connection between our clients and their target group and to create social engagement with quality graphic content. I feel my path to where I am today has not been easy, but determination, practice, good vibes, and the good advice of incredible people along the way, have allowed me to grow as a person and enjoy success and happiness while being thankful for my life choices. Our design studio is a real labor of love and professional experience created with my wife, creative partner, and fellow graphic design professional Tatiana Sanchez. Tatiana and I met on our very first day in college, quickly becoming close friends and finding a powerful connection that made us an efficient creative team. Our strong bond and dedication to our passion for design are helping us take our careers to the next level and allowing us to be part of new, challenging, and exciting design projects.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Welcome to Miami A City with multicultural backgrounds and a sweet Latin flavor. First, I would like to take you for dinner to the Wynwood area where we will find amazing restaurants like Kush, Bakan, and Coyo Taco and bars to hang out on Friday night like El Patio, Gramps, or Wood Tavern. A beach day in South Beach is a must but some of the best food can be found in the city of Coral Gables. Saturday night, Brickel or Coconut Grove can be good options and a Sunday trip to Boca Raton and West Palm Beach would not disappoint. Also, if you have some extra time in your hands, taking a short trip to the Florida keys will always be a win-win situation. Let the beach vibes take over and enjoy the tropical Heat.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hands down, most of the credit for my happiness in life is due to my wife, business partner, and fellow graphic design professional Tatiana Sanchez. Her good values as a person and her talent, integrity, and creativity as a professional have been incredibly important to our love story and the success and the growth of our design studio.
