We had the good fortune of connecting with Julia Severance and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julia, how do you think about risk?
Learning how to take risk in work and life is a valuable skill set that many individuals overlook. It helps define a good leader and more importantly an entrepreneur. It highlights individualism and it is a critical factor to growth in any aspect of life. As a senior in high school, my first risk was starting my blog. I had no idea what I was doing nor did I know where to start. Failure, embarrassment and hardship lurked around every corner. However, that was the best risk I could ever take because I gained prosperity, confidence, and growth. Not only did I develop skills in content creating, I worked toward marketing, branding and communication regarding my passion for self development. I took a risk that changed how I perceive the world and the opportunities around me. That first risk lead me to a handful more of successful risk that ultimately lead to doors opening. Not every risk is going to successful, but every risk will come with valuable information and experience that will help you transform yourself and your business to the next level.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My blog started as a safe space for young adult misfits to utilize for whatever they needed. As I developed myself and my blog, I transformed my platform to have a focus in organization since I felt there was a need for these skills in my age group throughout my community. I love committing myself to my practice and am extremely proud of how far I have come because not only is this my job, but is also my creative outlet and helps me destress. Bullet journaling has been another passion that I am consisting updating my audience on. For those that don’t know what bullet journaling is, it is really an all in one journaling organizational hack. It isn’t for everyone, but works wonders for me, my time management and my creativity. Some of the things I lay out in my bullet journal is monthly calendars, weekly layouts, trackers and goals I want to reach in the near future. There is nothing easy about setting up a journal monthly, updating blogs weekly, maintaining a YouTube channel and consistent improvement in branding and product development. However, I have learned that consistency is everything is business and life. If you want to get better at appealing to your audience, it takes time and dedication. There really is no short cut.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have many blog post written on my adventures in the south Florida area, so it is definitely hard to just pick just a few. The good news is that there is something to do for everyone that decides to visit. Whether you’re into the outdoors or just a museum junkie like myself, there is something amazing that awaits you. If your coming down to Florida, the beach is an obvious must. However, don’t stop there. One of my favorite things I ever did was pet wolves at the Safari Edventure habilitation center in Homestead, Florida. Not only is affordable for the whole family, the tickets help fund the safety and security of these exotic animals. Not mention bragging rights on how you got to pet a wolf in Miami. If you are more into the art realm, I highly recommend the Perez Art Museum. It is an incredible contemporary and modern museum that definitely draws in a younger crowd. My favorite part of this museum is their commitment to showcasing a large, diverse group of artist throughout the nation. The architecture of this building is jaw dropping too.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My success was possible because of many individuals, events and opportunities throughout my life. My mother specifically pushed education and academia. My mothers determination of higher education allowed me to graduate in three years with a Bachelors degree from the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg, debt free. This privilege exposed me to what I love most in the world today, leadership. My father pushed athletics and physical fitness. His support throughout my high school softball games gave me the determination and commitment to prioritizing my physical health which plays a huge role to my mental health. My softball coach became my life coach shortly after he retired from the field and helped guide me through some really difficult times as I approached the real world. My biggest and most important figure in my success is my best friend and partner in crime. He was the first person to expose me to entrepreneurship and showed me a path that I didn’t even know existed. He continues to push me to this day and I really owe all my success to him.
