Meet Juliane do Nascimento | JBRAVE Beauty Founder & Serial Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliane do Nascimento and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juliane, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?

Julie (JBRAVE) has a background in Entrepreneurship. She was born in Southern Brazil, lived in São Paulo, the biggest City of South America. She also has ancestors from Europe – Italy and France and she loves to going on vacation to Bahia in Northeast of Brazil and exploring different countries. Bahia is a very charming spot with welcoming people and the combination of all these cultural influences is one of the greatest inspirations of the JBRAVE brand. In fact, we have a huge mixed community in Brazil, which means that it is a very diverse country. We like to say that Brazilian people are pros at smiling. Happiness is something in their soul, spirit, culture and even in their most difficult moments. So, the world might have a lot to learn from them. My inspiration also comes from the great Amazon Rainforest, and its exotic biomes.

I wanted to create inclusive products that acted as an invitation for people to slow down, reflect, unplug, unwind, and relax. I was motivated to create my brand after reading ad reflecting upon Pope Francis’ book “Let us Dream”. Above all, I wanted to create a collection of beauty, spa and skincare products that could reflect the beauty of simplicity through self-care rituals with products made with natural ingredients that could provide an unforgettable and unique experience; and with that JBRAVE Beauty & SPA was born!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I’ve always had a passion for taking care of people and the environment. I wanted to create a brand that was different from what you see at every drug-store shelf; with not only effective products but also a meaningful mission behind everything. All of our products are eco-friendly and cruelty-free, which is something I prioritized since the beginning. Our soaps follow the cold-process method, which is similar to a “cheese aging process” and it takes six to seven weeks to be ready. The main ingredient of our soaps is olive oil, which helps our skin to remain nourished and moisturized after using our soap. This is considered the old fashioned way of making soap and that’s exactly what I wanted: to go back to the basics!

Creating JBRAVE was not easy by any means; it took a lot of research, time, dedication and after many ups and downs, I was able to create a brand that I’m extremely proud of. It is beyond doubt that you will have to face challenges as you navigate through life, especially when founding a new business. During tough times, the most important thing for me is focusing your thought on why you started in the first place; what motivated you to create this new business? When the COVID-19 pandemic started, I had access to a series of thoughtful insights about the planet, life, nature, people, and this moment was life-changing to me. I took that as an inspiration to look inwards and figure out what I could do to help the world become a better place. I researched day and night to come up with a new business idea that will be fulfilling to me and meaningful to others. My brand is not only about the NOW, but it is about the FUTURE. If we want future generations to enjoy all the blessings our earth has to offer then even the small steps (like switching out plastic bottles of shampoo to shampoo bars) will make a difference at the end of the day. My brand is an invitation to create a community of people who also believe that “the power of our lives is in our essence and the way we celebrate our lives”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I’m a new Miami resident but I’ve been here many times as a tourist and I can point out my favorite spots. I love to start my days in Miami with a macchiato and focaccia from Paolo Fontanot Bakery – my family migrated from a small town near Napoli, Italy to Brazil granted why I love Italian food so much. For those who want a lighter breakfast, I like to like a coffee and overnight oat from Pura Vida in Aventura and enjoy the very relaxing playlist they usually have on. Hollywood Beach is an awesome location to take a stroll with family and friends and if you have enough time enjoy a day by the ocean. If you happen to be in Miami during the weekends, you can’t forget to stop by the Aventura Farmer’s Market, which happens every Saturday and Sunday during mall hours at the Aventura Mall!! You’ll find a series of passionate, small-business owners who are very excited to introduce you to their unique products (myself included)! Finally, my favorite thing about Miami is its cultural diversity – I’ve met people from all over the world and that is one of the reasons why I hold this city close to my heart.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My shoutout goes to all the brave women around the world. Without their inspiring bravery and resilience, my story would not be the same. I was raised by a single mother in Curitiba, Brazil who taught me the true meaning of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of being one’s true authentic self. My daughter, Caroline, is also someone else who deserves recognition in JBRAVE’s story. From the moment I first decided to start a new business, to waking up early with a long day worth of work ahead for the many farmers market we’ve attended, to taking care of our website and social media, Caroline never failed to be there for me and for JBRAVE. The name JBRAVE was actually her idea; J for Julie (my name) and Brave because she sees me as someone brave. I’m very proud of the women-owned and Latin-owned brand I’ve been able to create based on the learnings and values I’ve learned from my mom and my grandmother and that I’m passing down to my daughter. I would also like to give a shoutout to my husband and biggest supporter for always being by my side, motivating me to follow my own path and accomplishing my dreams. Every day I’m inspired by all the brave women around the world who constantly have to put others before themselves, make sacrifices, leave their countries and family behind while working day and night to provide a better life for the ones they love. I hope that when using a JBRAVE products, we can think of all the strength and resilience women need to show every day and together we can inspire each other to continue to be brave through all of the hardships life throws at us.
