Meet Julie Kokesch Psy.D.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Kokesch Psy.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
The more life experience I acquire the less I do what people suggest and the more I do whatever I want. Work life balance starts with your own relationship with your work, then you can balance that, with life outside of work. The more efficiently I handle my daily tasks the more I have time to spend with friends and time alone.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am an entrepreneur. I’ve been self employed most of my adult life. I’ve also earned my living from my chosen field of psychological consulting. A lot of other people in my field have a side job or husband, which is their primary source of income.
Which is great but I am wired to handle the risk, hustle and patience necessary to endure the busy and slow periods of being your own boss. I know in my core that I am really passionate about helping people and there will always be a need for people to be supported and unconditionally loved so I trust there will always be business of me and others in the field if you’re great at it. Human connection and support will never be replaced by AI. One challenge was covid and my in-person consulting biz abruptly halted. In these times adaptability and creativity are essential. I did a lot of long walks on the beach talking to myself out loud to figure it all out. So I started stand up comedy. Logical? no, but super fun and taught me ever more fearlessness. I’ve survived all slow periods, or virus shut downs by trusting and continuing to do great work. My clients are primarily word-of-mouth referrals. I have never paid google ever. I offer 15 minute free consultations and this simple brief connection time help myself and the client know if we are a match or not. I don’t complicate things. When my clients feel, “seen”, “heard” and “valued” we can do the deep healing work or exponential work they desire. I suit up and show up for them 100% and they feel.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The beach for a sunrise. Wynwood Walls museum. Bike ride along the beach in Miami Beach. The market on Lincoln Road on Sundays. Segafredo coffee shop after 6pm for the female DJ’s. A night time bike ride along Ocean drive for the iconic neon lit hotel and restaurants. Botanical gardens outside the Miami Beach Convention Center. A smoothie at sunlife cafe, the only 100% organic restaurant on the beach, so far. Attend a Human Design workshop at Platform Wellness south of Fifth at the Meridian Hotel. Wander thru random art galleries, attend at least one swim week fashion show, eat authentic ceviche at least once, have a slice of carrot cake at the Mondrian, etc..

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents taught me the meaning of hard work. After all we were raised on a farm in MN. Caring for the animals and crops was non-negotiable and if I wanted anything I had to work for it by earning the money on my own and buying whatever I wanted by myself. When I was 16 years old I wanted a car. So I bought a car with the money I had been saving since I started working at 8 years old. I guess later in life I was inspired by the many psychology professors I met over the course of my Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees in Psychology. I’ve also read most well known self development books. Most of all I am a student of life, meaning I am the queen of “trial and error” method of learning. I have the experience, strength, scar tissue and wisdom from learning what works by learning what doesn’t work. A resiliance that most people label as crazy.
