We had the good fortune of connecting with Juliette Ojeda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juliette, what’s your definition for success?
As an artist, I think we build this stigma that success goes hand in hand with fame. Which to an extent is true. You need people to like your work, that’s how you make money. But I think sometimes we get so lost in just the trying to get attention and fame that we become desperate. I tell myself that my success stems from staying true and authentic to my art. Even though I am not making much now, I know that I am successful because my job is fun. I am successful because I love what I do and I have no doubt that this isn’t the field for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I never like to limit myself to just a singer even though it is mostly what I do. I think that what sets me apart from others is that I bring my culture to work. But I never want to make it just about my culture either. It doesn’t define who I am but it is a big part of my life. It’s important to me. I started posting Tiktok’s during the pandemic. I think the irony of me posting is funny because while I was almost failing some of my classes, and I went to a performing arts school, I was starting to gain a lot of attention on tiktok for my singing . After a year of posting singing some Spanish songs and a couple English songs, I blew up singing a Musical Theater song “screw loose”. And occasionally I’ll get recognized as the “screw loose girl”. I got my first agent and managers from that video. I started my self tape journey and wasn’t booking anything until this past summer. It wasn’t easy but it also wasn’t hard. I like to say I got lucky but I also did put in the work. I was going to college while working two jobs and doing whatever I could to make sure I never missed an audition or call back. I was also posting on tiktok which I don’t really like calling a job but at the end of the day it is! There were times where I would be so close to booking something and then nothing. I felt like giving up a lot but something in me just knew. Everyone around me knew. After I auditioned for The Voice, my life changed. I wasn’t just that girl from tiktok but I was that girl that was on the voice and now I’m the girl who’s going to be on Broadway and who knows in the future what else I’ll do. I said it on The Voice and I’ll say it again; My family sacrificed their lives following their dreams, so it would be ridiculous if I didn’t follow mine. Anything is possible.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take her to Miami Beach obviously. I grew up in the Wyndwood area too so I would definitely take her to eat at 1800- Lucky for dinner and then head over to one of my favorite margarita places about a block down. Now if we are in the mood for a Miami party brunch, I would take her to R-house in Wyndwood. It’s hands down one of my favorite places ever. If we were in the mood for something more quiet and almost tea party like, I would take her to Little Hen in midtown, super cute and pink. AT one point before she heads back home, I would make the 45 m minute drive to Hollywood beach and we would spend the day there. In my opinion, its better than south beach and 100% worth the drive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to my parents for supporting me. They crossed boarders and sacrificed their lives so that I could have the one they always dreamed of. Shout out to my friends who encourage me to “act delusional” and manifest our dream lives with me. I want to say thank you to my teachers who have encouraged me my entire life and my agent as well. And shout out to one of my all time favorite books, “The Midnight Library” that taught me happiness comes from within.
