We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Deal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I’ve taught my kids what unconditional love is by creating the best version of myself and giving it to them. They see me workout every day, and if you ask them why I work out, my daughters will respond, “So Daddy can beat up our boyfriends.” The example I lead by every day is the best lesson I can give them. We have a mantra in our house, “best day ever.” My kids know that every day isn’t in fact the best day ever, but if we have the mindset and the action to back it, we can create it. I take my role as the leader of our family very serious, with 3 daughters and 1 son, I’m responsible for showing my daughters how a man treats a woman, what a good man is, what a provider looks like, and what the standards are for them to judge future men that come into their lives. For my son, I have the responsibility of teaching him what a man is, and that’s a protector, provider, and a leader of his family and community. We have lots of conversations in our home, but I believe the best thing I do is show the kids through my actions what hard work, passion, grit, love, and an unwavering commitment to them looks and feels like.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
PayDay has been in business for 13 years and we serve roughly 4,000 clients nationwide. The thing I’m most proud of is our team and the culture we’ve created. There is something beautiful about watching the people in your team grow and seeing them hit new levels. I’m blessed to have family and some of my best friends work alongside of me to build this dream. Watching friends start new chapters of life and get married, start families, buy homes, buy new cars, go on dream vacations, etc. is so exciting because even though it’s only a tiny part, we get to help them bring their dreams to life. We have an amazing team that is dedicated to providing a service level that far exceeds our industries standard. We aim to bring the best of personalized service and technology to the table so we can make our clients businesses more efficient and proficient. We’ve built this company one brick at a time, there were years in the past where we needed to take a step backwards to keep moving forward, and then there have been years like the past 3 where we almost double in size year after year. The biggest thing I’d share with other leaders is to make sure you never lose sight of the fact that we work for our teams, they don’t work for us. When you cast a vision big enough to fit everyone’s goals inside, you create a culture of vested individuals. Share the big picture, be transparent with what’s going on, and never, I mean never take the people who trade time with their families, their hobbies, and their life to help build your vision for granted. Your people are the biggest and best investment you’ll ever make, treat them like such! When it comes to PayDay, I want people to feel like part of our family. We’re here for the referral or connection you need, we’re here for you to vent to, we’re here to send clients your way and support your business in ways outside of just payroll and human capital management. We are a true partner, not just a vendor who reaches out from time to time to pay your team. We’re here in the trenches with you, helping bring clarity and efficiency to the workforce.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
With having so many major cities at our disposal in South Jersey, this would be a wonderful whirlwind tour! Day 1 we would go to Atlantic City and walk the boardwalk, do a little gambling, and eat at Chef Vola’s or Cafe 2825. Once dinner digested, we’d hit the tables again and then have some fun at HQ. Day 2 we’d shoot over to Philadelphia, check out the Liberty Bell, City Hall, the Art Museum, and many of the other attractions while walking around. We would have to pop into Ishkabibles for a cheesesteak, cheese fries, and a gremlin, or Angelo’s for their pizza and a cheesesteak. We would walk that off at Harbor Park, possibly sit in a hammock, grab a beverage and enjoy the people watching. After lunch digests, we’d head to dinner at Alpen Rose, Budakhan, or Zahav. Followed by drinks at one of the roof top bars like Assembly or Stratus. Day 3 we’d shoot up to Manhattan for the day, check out the statue of liberty, head to time square and take in all that energy. From there we would catch a Broadway show, hopefully Hamilton 🙂 After our show, choose one of the many amazing restaurants for dinner, something like Nusr-et or Per Se. We would have to then hit one of the night clubs or a roof top bar to recap the night. Day 4 would bring us down to Washington D.C. where we would check out the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, and the White House. We’d rent scooters and scoot scoot around the city to feel like a kid again. Lunch would be somewhere in the Navy Yard so we’re by the water and plenty of options. After lunch, possibly the big bus tour to get some history and hop on and off at different spots like the Spy Museum! Dinner would then be at Fiola or 1789 Restaurant and Bar. After digesting we’d head home to get some sleep for golf the next day! Day 5, we’re relaxing and playing golf at Burlington CC (my home club) or Trump National for one of the nicest and most challenging courses in Southern NJ. We would eat lunch there and then have massages scheduled for later in the day before going to one of my favorite local restaurants, Steak 38. Day 6 we would head LBI to check out a different beach town, check out the local shops, hit some of the breweries, and then grab lunch at Northside Bar and Grill, throw some cornhole or play some games with beverages after to unwind. From there, walk the beach and reflect back on the past few days before heading to dinner at Salt Kitchen and Bar at Hotel LBI. Day 7 would be my guests choice for anything we hadn’t yet covered. Preferably it would be a spa day after all those miles walked and driving!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Through my years in business and on this earth I’ve been blessed to create so many amazing relationships that I’ve learned many lessons from. There are two organizations outside of PayDay that have truly helped me reach my next levels. First is Jerseyman. This community has taught me how to create deep relationships with people and the importance of giving and helping others. Many times, you walk into rooms and you get a taker vibe, everyone is there to get your book of business, or introductions to folks you know. Jerseyman has the caliber of folks that are there to help you, many of the fellow members have been instrumental in my personal and career development by sharing insight, helping make connections, or challenging me to think bigger and dig deeper. This has been one of the best investments I’ve made in my business career!

The second is the Harvest Performance Coaching community, led by fellow Jerseyman member, Devin DiNofa. Devin was instrumental on me getting my health back under control. I was a prior D1 football player who weighted up to 320 pounds, after my playing days that muscle turned to fat, and I was in a bad place mentally. Most folks would never know because I was great at wearing a mask and projecting a happy person. Devin challenged me to create my best version not only for myself, but for my family, my team, and my community. I dropped 80 pounds, started to inspire others, and now I’ll never look back. The community we’ve built in the Harvest is full of other entrepreneurs who are looking to level up in their faith, family, fitness, and finances. We all push one another, we help make connections, or we talk through the limiting beliefs that we all come across. We also have high level speakers come in to share stories of their success, along with the X’s and O’s of how they got there. The things I’ve learned in each aspect of life has only helped me progress and then go back and lift others out of the darkness I once stood in. The Harvest community has been the best investment I’ve made for my life as a whole.
