We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin “Justus” Grey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin “Justus”, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am firm believer that in order to succeed you must take risks. Risk taking for me is simply stepping out into the unknown , having faith and immense self-belief, that regardless of the possible outcome, you are willing to bet on yourself and follow through your goals and objectives. No matter what field you are in , in order elevate you have to take risks. At 18 years old I made the unorthodox decision to follow my passion for music. At the time I didn’t know where the journey would lead me or how it would sustain my life. What I did know however , was that I was really talented in my craft and passionate about it. My love for music is surreal and I know the power it has on people. Fast forward 5 years later at 23 and I can safely say I have no regrets about my decision. That one choice has allowed me to meet greet people , travel and earn a stable income while doing something I love.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My true art is setting people free through music. As a Dj I have the power to control people’s mood , so I always try my best to create a good vibe through my music selection. I believe my energy and charisma is what sets me a part from everyone else , I am very personable and as such people easily gravitate to my aura. This is one of the main reasons for my success , I am the people’s choice and they have helped me elevate over the years. The greatest joy I get from my career is knowing that people enjoy what I do and I impact their lives positively. My journey in music has been pretty smooth , from an early age my team and I knew what it would take to attain a certain level of success and we applied that formula. Hard Work , Passion , Persistence and Determination are just a few traits we embody. It is through these traits and Networking that we were able to get certain opportunities which we then capitalized on using our talent. Over the years I’ve learnt a few lessons but I think the most important one is that nobody can see your vision but you so if you believe in something go and get it , let no one deter you from your dreams and goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend was visiting on a week long trip I would take them to the mall , the beach , any events I play at , the gun range and a few restaurants. I would probably take them to restaurants like Benihana , Red Lobster , Bahama Breeze , Shooters , Tap 42 , Kekes , Mastros , Cheesecake Factory etc. Where activities are concerned I am an extrovert , so I like exploring and trying new things so I would be open minded to anything really. I would just try my best to show my friend a good time in and around my city. Doing a lot of outdoor activities exploring nature and soaking up the beautiful and abundant universe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family members. From the beginning of my journey, they have always believed in me , supported me and motivated me. Special shoutout to my mom for buying me my first microphone and my brother DJ Karbon for purchasing our first DJ setup. I would also like to express gratitude towards my brother Jesse Royal for always mentoring and inspiring me. He was one of the few people that saw my greatness and potential before even I could see it. For everyone who has been influential in my journey , thank you.
