Meet Justin P. Slaughter | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin P. Slaughter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin P., why did you pursue a creative career?
As I was younger I would play “make believe”; I would truly let my imagination run wild. For example, when I was a kid I would hide my favorite toy in the farthest part of my parents house and symbolize it as a rare artifact and I would place my mom’s furniture pillows scattered across the floor and imagine that I’m in a uncharted island and I’m leaping from rock to rock and the ground is hot lava just to get to the other side to find that lost relic. I’ve always had an imagination and creative thinking. Which lead me into the direction of being an Actor. Being one, I can do just that based on the writer and how the character I’m portraying is written. Being able to bring to life a well written character and give the audience that illusion, attract them; convincing them that I am the character. Utter conviction. To interact with the audience and make them feel or relate with the character I’m portraying is definitely the why.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up in the city of Port Arthur, TX there isn’t any resources for those who want to pursue Acting in Film/TV. The area is mainly industrial. You would possibly have to travel to another state to do so; that’s what I’ve did. I’m most proud about the new Sci-Fi Adventure I’m starring in called “Egress” currently on Amazon Prime Video; I play Adam Huxley who’s an ex military private turned bounty hunter. I’m even more excited because we’ve been green lit to move forward with the series. So I get to be Adam Huxley for a bit more.
Now, before landing a lead role, I did start off very small and had to build myself up to be able to even get a crack at auditioning for those type of roles.
I work as a stand-in for Kenneth Israel in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Afterwards, I was contacted to do crew work on “Avengers: Endgame”. Done a Pepsi Commercial “This Is The Pepsi: Cravings”, DuGood FCU Commercial. A few student films in order to get better with having speaking roles. This lead me into landing a supporting role in the feature film, “90 Feet From Home,” starring Adam Hampton, Shawn Michaels, Dean Cain and Eric Roberts. I then landed another supporting role in the feature film “Meteor” staring Robert Keith, Thom Hallum and Olivia Nash.
Of course, I still had to take Acting Classes to hone in and perfect my craft so I’ve enrolled in a advance class called “Next Level Acting Studios”. This truly helped and made difference in my career.
It wasn’t easy, everything I’m saying didn’t happen within a few day span. More like within 5 years. There were doubts because I did face rejection quite a few times from auditions. Though I did overcome the disappointment of rejections because I’ve learned that I can’t always book every role I submit to and that’s ok because acting roles are like buses, missed one and next one coming. I want the world to know that it’s ok to dream again, it’s ok to try. It’s better to fail from trying than to not try at all wish “what could’ve been”. Besides success comes from failure, learning and consistency.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I definitely would have to say Bellingham, Washington. Such a beautiful place especially around Deming; so many beautiful mountains especially if you’re coming from an area that’s dominantly flat with not even hills present. The food is great and the view is even better. Perfect weather too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, the person that’s been in my corner supporting me loving me and giving me the encouragement that I need is my better half Karen Robles Arguelles. She knows first hand just how hard it is in the film industry, better than anyone else I know. The highs and the lows she’s always there.
