We had the good fortune of connecting with Jutt Huffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jutt, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Well, I think success can be defined as many things. A lot of people equate success to money. I don’t believe that to be true. My idea of success is having the least amount of stress and the most amount of freedom. Sure, money and freedom can be synonymous, but in general you have to load on more stress and give away freedom to acquire more money. I think the path to success is finding ways to make money doing what you love and that organically brings happiness and attracts more love.

I believe it takes a lot of hard work, passion, and consistency to acquire a low-stress and high-freedom lifestyle. Success is earned, not given. Put in more time than anyone else and you can’t be stopped.

To get where I am now, Ive been grinding for 20 years. I grew up in Ohio and started playing guitar at 13 years old and was told I can learn it, have fun with it, I can even master it, but I can’t make a living with it. I found out quickly that I loved guitar and wanted to be really good at it and did exactly that by practicing 2-4 hours a day for years. I started playing at bars by the time I was 19 and realized it was a fun side hustle with a lot of perks. After working in ten different industries by the time I was 21, I tried doing music full time in Columbus, OH and failed. I was weak on the business end of things and had a lot of room to grow as a singer and entertainer. After 2 years of pulling myself back up with two more dead end jobs that I didn’t care for, I moved to Nashville with my beat up Saturn, a lot of debt, a bag of clothes, some guitars and a sound system. In a matter of 9 months I was able to leave my day job and do music full time. It has been ten years now of performing and traveling the country as a full-time pro entertainer and I currently set up shop in West Palm Beach to enjoy the South Florida lifestyle.

There is something to be said about the Nashville hustle of playing over 300 gigs a year and basically working for tips. It is a sink or swim kind of lifestyle and takes a little bit of crazy to endure it. I’ve seen many talented musicians, singers, artists try to go down the Lower Broadway path and end up packing their bags back home within weeks, months, or years.

I owe my success to hard work, persistence, courage, talent and blessings from God. Karma is real. Positive energy goes a long way. Passion is everything. There is nothing I love more than giving away my energy through music to people that appreciate it.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My earliest memories of music were hair bands from the 70’s & 80’s, Motown, Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jackson 5, Bob Marley, and the Saturday Night Special series. So naturally I have rock n roll in my veins. I first sang in front of an audience at the age of 10 at a VFW singing “Standing Outside The Fire” during karaoke. I absolutely loved it. What a rush! When I started playing guitar I was listening to Jack Johnson and John Mayer and learning as many of their songs as I could. After listening to an Eminem album in my teen years I was inspired to start writing.

Moving to Nashville really changed my perspective on writing. For the first time in my life I could listen to a boring country song and hear the lyrics. Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash swept over my world and I was introduced to a new more realistic approach to writing a song grounded in reality. For the last seven years I’ve been touring through a lot of beach towns and really locked in to the island and reggae vibes.

So basically my style is a melting pot of genres and influences which has held me back as an artist on one spectrum because I refuse to put myself into a box of only a certain style of music. If I had to tell you what I’m best at I would have to say rock & roll, country, and reggae. When people ask me what kind of music I make I like to let them listen and make that label themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow. There are so many things to do in South Florida. Being from the midwest, I am a sucker for a beach, especially one that is chill and not crowded. I take friends to Juno Beach to get some sun and relax or go surfing. I also take them to Islamorada where Captain Jamey just asks for a bottle of rum and some tunes in exchange for going around in circles for an evening in his sailboat.

Okeeheelee Park is a beautiful spot for a walk or jog. It also has a dope wake board park, golf, and a fitness trail with workout stations. I’ve also found a new hobby of playing street hockey at Abacoa Skate Park!

Old Key Lime House is my favorite bar in South Florida. It is home to some of the best local bands, has great food and a down to earth built-in crowd right on the water.

When it comes to an exclusive time with great people I would take them to The Patt’s Garage, a private venue/invite-only kinda spot that has the best smoked meat of anywhere on earth. Good people, good food, good booze, and good music!

If my guests are in for a rage kinda night in West Palm Beach then it’s simple: Rocco’s Tacos, Roxy’s Rooftop, then Rachel’s! Doesn’t get more rage than that!
