Meet Kai Skye Peasley | Photographer // Kai Skye Photography

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kai Skye Peasley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kai, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to create a small photography studio with no creative limits. My message behind my photography sessions is to capture who you truly are; I strive to create authentic portraits of candid moments. I am an anti-retouching photographer (for cosmetic reasons) in an effort to promote body positivity and embracing your true self.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s been a bit of a challenge for me to set myself apart creatively in Miami & the South Florida photography scene. I have a distinct vibrant and true to life photography style that is a unique experience for each client. I get to know each person and create an authentic portrait session or wedding collection that is custom to them.
My studio captures all kinds of photography and videography including: weddings & elopements, couples & engagements, events, boudoir, commercial, family portraits, headshots & branding and more! If you’re interested in a custom session, send us a message.
One of our specialty areas is multi-cultural weddings and events. We have photographed several weddings of many cultural traditions and practices over my 7 years in the wedding industry. Some of these events included weddings and milestone events from Indian (Hindu and Christian), Chinese (Buddhist), Jewish, Vietnamese cultures – to name a few.
The thing that sets our studio apart is our dedication to the LGBTQ+ community. We craft bespoke, genuine portraits for clients of all identities and sexualities. I am a queer/pansexual business owner and identify as nonbinary
(shey/they). We create a safe space for each and every wedding and portrait client!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would honestly take them to a few places really close to my neighborhood in West Miami/Kendall. I would take them on an an airboat ride in the Everglades to check out some alligators. It’s really fun and totally not overrated! I would also take them to grab a happy hour bite at Spanish Marie, a brewery that my husband and I love. They serve really unique sour (but very sweet) beer and pizza, as well as other bar foods.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Right now I’d like to shoutout my husband and my family for encouraging me to be strong in restarting my business over the last year. We moved from Northern California to Miami a little over a year ago and it’s been a struggle making new connections and friends in the industry here. My husband and business partner, Cal has been my biggest support. My family and friends back in California have been supportive from afar, checking in and trying to promote my business wherever they can!
