We had the good fortune of connecting with Karamvir Bhatti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karamvir, why did you pursue a creative career?
Throughout all of the random pursuits in my life, creativity has always been home for me. It is the one thing that allows me to tap into my personal sense of freedom and inner child. When I am creatively tuned into a project or idea, I learn more about myself than I would at a full-time job. It gives me the unique opportunity to turn off my logical brain and just play.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From a very young age, it was pretty much decided that I would pursue a career in the medical field. I had a choice between being a doctor or a nurse—nothing in between. And since I was not sure what I wanted to do, I compromised to appease my family. I went to a high school that was geared towards health professions and attended various biology, nursing, & chemistry programs throughout the city. I even began interning at a local hospital to really try and push myself towards the medical field. But by the end of my sophomore year of high school, I was completely burnt out. It was clear to me that I could no longer pretend to do what was considered best for my family. I had to choose myself.

After taking a leap of faith, I ended up attending a private liberal arts college in upstate NY. This really began to open my eyes to the unlimited possibilities that were available to me. Throughout the years, I have gained experience in diverse areas of life. I have created educational programming for after-school programs, worked in the cannabis world as a POC advocate, and have had experience in building community spaces.

Today, I am still not entirely sure where I want to go in my career. I know I enjoy the freedom of being able to bounce between different creative avenues and develop my own passion projects. By allowing myself to play in this way, I have found that life becomes easier to flow with. I get to pick my vibe and allow myself the privilege of being curious about what is out in the world. Currently, I am pursuing a career in graphic design, beautification services, and modeling.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ooo! What makes NYC so exciting for everyone is that every borough has its own unique vibe! We would eat in Queens, grab a drink in Brooklyn, hop on a Citi-bike, and head over the Williamsburg bridge to the city to watch the sunset. Trips to the local museums and art exhibits are a must 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Huge shout out to my close circle of friends! You know who you all are. 🙂 You have literally helped me get back on my feet and have always made sure to check up on me through the years. I am endlessly grateful to know that I will always have my community behind me.
