We had the good fortune of connecting with Kareen Chung and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kareen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I wanted to create a space where people of all kinds could feel comfortable in a healing space. i wanted the freedom to take elements from different therapeutic approaches according to the individual needs of the client. Sometimes people find it difficult or uncomfortable to put their feelings into words, make sense of what they are going through, and need help & support from someone outside of their personal life.

My desire was to provide a therapeutic relationship in a non-judgmental and a confidential relationship; where clients would be free to talk about whatever it is, concerning them. A space, where they will be accepted, valued, and safe. I wanted to produce a space where clients could explore issues, re-build your self-confidence and self-worth, to enable them to take the responsibility for their own choices and make positive changes within their life. Therapy that is tailored to your needs alone.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My calling as Psychotherapist is to help clients reach their mental health goals. I like to use “Talk Therapy” to treat people for emotional issues, as well as mental illnesses. What sets me apart from others is my passion for working and reaching people from my Caribbean diaspora and beyond. I’ve been invited to speak at events for mental health internationally, which I am extremely proud of. My reach is not limited to one area, it’s global.

My private practice, which is called Heart to Heart Therapy, allows me to do so internationally. I travel for my work to see clients in the UK, Caribbean and the USA.

Starting my practice was not easy. There were several pushbacks; but with my support system I was able to push through. The most important lesson I’ve learnt is to be patient!! Everything will happen in God’s timing, not mine. I also learnt that in order to maintain the flow of my practice, I have to LOVE what I do. And I absolutely Love being a Psychotherapist!

I want people to know that I genuinely care for each person who walks through my doors (psychically or virtually). I feel honoured by anyone who has trusted me enough to be vulnerable and share their stories, deepest secrets and insecurities with,
and I will continue to aid in their healing in anyway I possibly can.

Heart to Heart therapy is a safe space. I will also be branching out into international retreats, where persons can come along and experience a wholistic mental health weekend. I’m super excited about this venture and the growth of my company.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve been blessed to have lived in two cities in my life time, Kingston Jamaica and Birmingham England. However My favourite city would have to be Kingston. There are so many amazing things to do there.

The capital of Jamaica is one of the most popular destinations to visit on the island. Especially with those that have family on the island.

You’ll find some fantastic beaches such as Fort Clarence Beach, and also the off-shore Lime Cay which has a more off the beaten path feel.

Those that love nature should also look at visiting Cane Falls, which is set in the forest and is a great day trip from Kingston.

Kingston is where to come for all things reggae. Here you can visit the former home of Bob Marley, which has since been converted into a museum, as well as the Bob Marley Statue.

If you’re looking for cool places to chill in Kingston? Hitting the town for a night out is always a great way to celebrate your vacation and you’ll definitely want to hit the Dub Club for that. It’s a great place for the locals and for the tourists, not to mention it gives you great food and drinks available all night long. See actual bands performing live as well as some of your favourites through the elaborate sound system. It’s especially perfect if you’re into reggae because that’s what you’re going to get the most of here.

Hellshire beach is a significant landmark, especially for Jamaicans local to Kingston. If you like the idea of eating fresh fish, this is the best place to go. Hellshire beach is not like you’d expect on the north or east coast.

However, it’s definitely one of the best things to do in Kingston, Jamaica if you’ve got the time. It’s more than a beach; it’s a cultural landmark.

Hellshire is a place to relax in the day and party in the evening. So if you were wondering how you could connect to the nightlife in Kingston chilling at the beach through to the evening gives you a little taste.
You’ll be offered a place to relax in one of the many restaurants or cook shops that will offer to cook you fresh fish, lobster, and other seafood that you may imagine.

The Famous Devon House Bakery, Jamaica
With so many beautiful spots to visit in Jamaica, here are six ideas if you were thinking of traveling to Kingston, Jamaica’s capital city.

Devon House is one of the sights to see in Jamaica that gives you a classic example of Jamaican Georgian architecture.

The 19th-century Mansion sits on 11 acres of land and is enclosed between sky-scraping palm trees overlooking a water fountain.

Devon House is famous with Jamaicans for its ice cream pronounced I Scream and this is one of the best places to eat ice cream in Jamaica.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Man, there have been so many people I could contribute my current success to. I didn’t do this alone. For one, My Mother and father Magurite and Morris Chung. Who saw my potential and drive and helped me in moments where I could not see the vision. Secondly my amazing close friends who gave me motivation, spent hours on the phone with me to hear my dream and refer clients to me! Thank you Leanne, Deniece, Lisa, Kori, Lily, Ava and Patrick. Without you all this dream would not happen.
